Kinder, Gentler Board...

I've been seeing this phrase used in posts and I just wanted to clarify something (since I am probably one of the ones that is responsible for starting it all)...

I know we had a bit of an "issue" with some abusive posts... This does not mean that we now want the board to become stifled or restrictive in any way, shape or form. While we cannot defend any person who will abuse, belittle or make fun of a poster's issues, that does NOT mean you should bite your tongues to the point of not saying what you think.

Please, say what you mean and mean what you say. Do not bite your tongue or hold your thoughts. The beauty of this board is in its honesty. Just do all of it without being abusive. Personally, I do not want anyone to leave the board because they feel they cannot be heard. And I'm sure we all are in agreement on this. :)

I opened this post to your comments, concerns or questions so please feel free to reply.

Dang that was a perfect post! Thanks for delurking. I can't remember the reason you left (busy frickin' summer and I'm old..lol) but I was sorry to see you go. Maybe you could reconsider and spice this place up??? It's hard though I know. Libraclass was gone for quite a long time but now seems to be more of a regular again. Sometimes a break helps.

You know who else I miss? Annbeaglemom and tea4all. I wonder how they are......

Amen, sistah...

This board is getting like the Guy Talk board where the posts are usually about a guy that tells the woman he doesn't want a relationship and they ask..."do you think he'll change his mind"....aaaaccckkk!!!

This post reminds me...whatever happened to the idea of putting a link to the website at the top of the board, so that people could read FAQs (or whatever was decided along the same lines)?

There is a link. That is how I found the idea to go online and search other women's profiles. At the end of the first paragraph at the top of the board it says "Click here for some tips to help get you started." and "here" is a link to the webpage.

I guess it could be more obvious, but I found it.

Thanks, that has been there for quite some time, but there was talk a month or two ago about adding a bigger note or making it more obvious that there's an FAQ people should read before posting or *something*...to address this issue of people asking the same questions over and over again.

I'm not at all surprised that a conscientious person like yourself would have read it ;-).

Tracy & Vexer - Those were both great posts. Vexer mentioned it's hard to identify with people who break up with someone and then have 10 guys in rotation right away. I agree and I think that's a clear sign of the number of younger posters on the board. I had heard, even before I started OLD, that most 20-something women are bombarded with responses, but for us over 35-somethings, not so much.
I still read the board daily but I miss Tracy, Vexer, LG, pianoguy, lisapeake. And of course jhoover :)

I like the board just the way it is. I haven't seen any offensive posts, but what is offensive to me, may not be offensive to others, and the CM's decide what is offensive enough to be removed. So something that offends me might not get removed and remain up there...LOL go figure right?

Anyhow, I think that's why the ignore feature is key. I missed all the hoopla because I was on the beach for the entire week relaxing. LOL

have you ever noticed though that say Poster A responds to Poster B and it's Poster C that says the post from Poster A to B was too harsh that starts all the "You are so rude" etc. posts, it's hardly ever Poster B that says "did you mean that in a negative way" it's always Poster C, D, E and F sticking up for a perceived slam on Poster B.

LOL

Poster B may not tell Poster A, but I know in many situations, Poster B's have contacted me or others and have shared their upset... Sometimes I think ppl don't want to start fights, etc.
