Let's talk about dealbreakers in dating/relationships. There are different levels of dealbreakers which I will divide into

Pages
Heh!!
Absolute Dealbreakers. He must be truly single. Not separated. He must be gainfully employed - or if he's so darn wealthy he doesn't need to work, he must be active in SOME way like sitting on boards for charities or being a Big Brother, or something. No STDs. No criminal record. No abusive behavior.
Debatable Dealbreakers. No very young children (minimum school age). No outrageous debt ratio. Have a civil relationship with ex if children are involved. More than a high school education - even if that means technical training, not college. Protestant.
Negotiable Dealbreakers. Distance. Prefer a local guy, but would move for the right guy. Prefer a pretty active guy who has his own interests to pursue...I don't know if I could stick with a couch potato or not.
Picky Dealbreakers. Height, age, handicaps.

That's not picky OR negotiable!
Well... without going into too much detail, I just haven't found that
Hi PhX,
I Like yours, even though I am a Bush supporter, and Methodist...'separated' is in the same realm for me, as well, and you communicate wonderfully through the written word, too! :)
As for your last sentence, I think that, verbatim, ought to be considered for the "OLD Dater's Bible and Handbook, with Tear-Out Recipie Cards", that I plan to write one day soon! All kidding aside, that sentence would be "Commandment #1"!
Remember, it is Only kinky if Both of you don't enjoy it! (cupcake-ism # 4--note that it is high on the 'list"!)
Truly,
Cupcake
Absoulute - No marrieds, not abusive in any way (mentally, physically, emotionally or controlling), not emotionally unhealthy, no one unable to support themselves financially and no ambition to do so (if he is temporarily unemployed and without financial means at the time but actively looking for a job, np)
Debatable - no smokers (I'm very allergic) or dippers/chewers, no men significantly shorter than I am, no one over the age of 40 or under 30, no metrosexuals, no one completely estranged from their family (unless there is a really good reason)
Negotiable - within the same metro area, no children, no hunters, no Republicans, no one that won't do "common courtesy" things for me like hold doors (this can be learned)
Picky - no widowed, no one that doesn't like sports
LOVE this one, Hoov!,
A. Copycat what others have said before me here on this discussion as they are All Good! Add in Smokers-for me, just does not work. Not only anti-health, but also the smell factor, and money gone "up in smoke." You also cannot be an "occasional" smoker; that is like being "kinda' pregnant", on my planet!
D.Likes to exercise, and actually Does go to the gym, not just telling me that you have because it is one of my jobs, and I do it. I am Not judgemental on this one, it is Surely a choice 'to' or 'not to' exercise regularly..but please, do not lie about it! Leads me to another I Might tolerate if he is true cool; lying about his age--I can see where people may be sensitive about this over 45, so I could walk it, maybe.
N. Children under 13. I prefer them there as mine are both over 14, and a person generally has more free time if the offspring are older. But, again, this can get an over-ride, if they qualify.
P.Toupees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need I say more?
truly,
Cupcake
LOL at "toupees"!! You kill, cupcake!
1. ABSOLUTE - the married thing - sorry, dude, but "separated" is still married.
2. DEBATABLE - smoking - I've dated smokers in the past, but since my allergies seem to have gotten worse over the years and I'm prone to sinus infections, I give smokers a pass. Plus I'm convinced that my recent bout of laryngitis was caused by inhaling second hand smoke in a neighborhood dive.
3. NEGOTIABLE - Republicans/Bush supporters (sorry cupcake, I still love you though :). This used to be an absolute but I'm mellowing in my old age.
4. PICKY - height, weight, general fitness level - I work hard at not being overweight and staying healthy so I tend to avoid junk food junkies who haven't gotten their heart rate up since grade school dodgeball.
Absolute Dealbreakers. Married, or anyone who has anything about them that would make me not trust them around my child.
Debatable Dealbreakers. Perfectionism - this reminds me too much of my ex!
Negotiable Dealbreakers. Anyone who is very religious - for the right person, I can bend. Also, ultra-liberals.
Picky Dealbreakers. Light jazz lovers, men who don't like sports, and anyone who spends more time looking in the mirror than I do!
Phoenixmama - the perfect guy you are seeking sounds so much like a guy that I am seeing now! Except he voted for Bush!
Hey surfergirl, if it doesn't work out, send him my way... if all else is right, I could let the Bush thing slide...
