Lunch dates

In the past few weeks, I've had SIX men ask me if I wanted to grab lunch with them during the week (as first meets). It's really starting to get annoying. I have a full time job - I simply can't meet them for lunch, and am starting to wonder if I'm the only one doing the OLD dating thing who has a job.

Do any of you do first meets during lunch?

Actually, if I were in the same general area as a guy, I think I'd like the idea.

I wouldn't mind getting out for lunch, but I only get a half hour lunch. I'm very ashamed to admit that, so it's hard to tell guys why I don't want to meet for lunch. I'm starting a new job next month (the current one is AWFUL), but it's at an airport in the middle of nowhere. I'm one of those people who simply hates taking a long lunch or being late.

Besides, I never meet anyone who lives in the same part of town as me. I normally end up driving an hour to meet someone for a date, so it doesn't make sense to ask to meet someone for lunch.

Well, you can always just tell them that you are too busy to meet for lunch or that you don't have the time to take an hour which is true (I guess you're in an hourly position since you only get a half hour? - nothing to be ashamed of!) and when you get the new job, you can say it's inconvenient which it is.

See, even when I was salaried (and I will be again in three weeks!), I never was in a position to meet people for lunch.

I guess that brings me to the question - is it really realistic to date someone who lives in a completely different part of town? Not exactly long distance, but not really around the corner.

Hey Emily....I've been lurking a bit, but wanted to add my 2cents.

I have a full time job too. You don't get a lunch break?

I think that is one of the best time to meet someone and you stay within the hour timeframe.

Other option, possibly you can suggest meeting for early coffee at Starbuck's?

I have a full time job and get an hour for lunch everyday. Do I take that hour?

That is strange as very rarely do guys I meet suggest lunch dates, actually I would welcome it more often. But, if lunch is not a good time for you just say so and suggest an alternative.

Most of the guys I date are not far away but not right in my area either and it works fine. I prefer to stay within 20-30 min as that way you can still have weeknight dates easily, more than 30 min and that gets difficult.

I only get a half hour for lunch at my current job and most of the time I don't eat lunch, because it's too much hassle. I start a new (better job) in a few weeks, but it's very far away from anything.

I also work early - 7 am - so it's hard to meet people except after work. I've just emailed with men who think that's undoable. I don't get that. Lunch is bad for me, especially when you consider I live in a huge city, and most likely, we aren't near each other.
