Lying about height
| Fri, 01-21-2005 - 6:09pm |
My experience with OLD is limited to 5 dates.
However, I noticed that all of them lied about their height.
One was 5' 8'' and said is 5' 11'
one 5' 10'' and said 6' 0''
one was 5' 11''and said 6' 2!!!!
one was 5' 7 and said 5' 10''
another was 5' 10'' adn said 6' 0''
so basically all of them added 2-4 '' to their height
I m 5' 6'' but I know when I wear my high heel my height is a 5' 10'' so I can compare and tell their right heigh!!
what a bunch of loosers!

I find the exact same thing to be true with the men I have met!
Do you see the common thread with the men you listed? They are all under 6'. The only man I have met that didnt add 2" to his height was 6'4" and didnt need to. I am 5'8" barefoot and I prefer a man who is a little taller than me.
Along with height there seems to be a problem with how men grade themselves physically too. How many "athletic" men have the body to support that statement? Even lots of the guys who list themselves as "average" look like they belong in the extra padding category.
I am afraid that years of being judged by men has made me jaded.
Exactly! That guy who is 5’2” – someone posted about today, I bet he’s 5’0 so I’d be leery as that’s small especially if the girl/woman is taller. It would remind me of that S and the City episode where Sam was dating that small guy (he wore clothes from the little boys section) and she asked all the gals, what is considered too short and they all said anything under 5’0 was considered abnormally small....I also have a GF who is 4’10” and tells everyone she is 5’0...NOT!
I also agree, every man who was over 6’0 never lied, almost everyone under that lied by an inch or two. I dated that 6’4” guy, he said he was 6’3” and he lied UNDER his height which was a first. I am 5’3” and prefer men under 6’0” too hard to reach up and kiss um. My guy now is perfect 5’8” (says he’s 5’9”, he, he) but perfect for me, smiles.

I've yet to have a guy lie to me about his height (or his age for that matter). They've all been exactly where they said they were.
Obviously I need to stick to the sites I was using, when/if I return to the whole thing!

I was going to ask...how well have they been working for you?

Here are the sites I typically have used in the past:
ChicagoReader (local)
Nerve
Lavalife
Craig's List (most recent)
Out of all of them, I've only met one or two who've been total jerks (the one who told me I was too fat to date and the other one who was about 30 pounds more than his photos on the profile and had *ahem* a serious lack of 'equipment'~hey, if he's gonna lie, I'm not above usinig him for a bit o' nooky!).
Granted, there's been a fair amount of ghosting before meeting or even after one date, but those things just don't really bother me much (I'd rather have them disappear than waste my time is my theory).
The local one has been the best bet (one bf of a year and another for 5-6 months) and Craig's List has followed up with a good second (but takes a lot more screening effort since it's free and is just a listing, not really a 'profile' per se.)
Salon/Nerve is a solid third though, maybe even a tie for second. There are actually 5 or 6 actual places that converge for profiles (Salon, Nerve, The Onion and a couple others), so the mix is pretty wide. Nerve tends to be a little edgier (i.e. kinkier to be blunt), Onion a little goofier and Salon is far more liberal than conservative. You can opt to search the whole database or just the one you signed up with, depending on what you're looking for. I've met several really cool guys I still talk to, hang out with on occasion~we just weren't good 'dating' fits.
I really can't say I've run into too many people who've been total asses, some minor jerkdom, but certainly nothing along the lines (other than weight guy) of some things I've read here!

>>I agree with JH that 95% of men I have met have lied about their height.<<
I am a little bit amazed to read this. Apparently for once I'm in that cool 5%, because I just put down how tall I really am- I've always just put 6'0" down for height.
Of course, since all the guys who're lying are LESS than 6 feet tall, maybe us 6-footers mostly don't have to lie about it.
LOL
Actually, now that I read this, I guess I'm underreporting. I'm actually a bit over 6 feet tall- I just measured myself and I'm at about 6 feet and 0.6 inches tall, so if I were to round it off I'm actually 6'1", not 6'0"!
And according to the rule of adding two inches (ahem), I'm now 6'3" in the dating world! Wooo hooo! LOL
(Where else do we get to add inches? I'm just wondering... um... never mind.)
Here's food for thought, though- look at the other womens' profiles. How many of them want a guy that's considerably taller than them? How many want a guy who's 5'9" (which I've read is actually the average height of an adult male in the United States) or shorter, and how many want some nice strapping 5'11" guy?
I m 5'6'' (closer to 7''really) but I prefer tall guys! I also like to wear heels and this makes me taller than most average guys and I dont like this.
