Hey all,
I've decided to give online dating a shot, but it seems like of all the pictures that I have of myself, I really don't like any of them that much.

have at one picture that shows you from at least the waist up, don't wear sunglasses or a hat. If you are a jeans t-shirt guy then wear jeans t-shirt...take lots of pics and pick the ones that you look the most relaxed in....
two good threads that may be helpful to you...

If you don't feel that you are all that photogenic then either go see a professional photographer or find a friend that is good with a camera. Have somebody take 100 pictures of you in different poses, in different lights and one of them might be good enough for a profile.
Then have somebody take some pictures of you doing activities you like to do, like skiing, hang gliding, or cooking. Make sure you are smiling and having a good time.
Get 4-5 pictures together and you should get some good response. Don't post pics of you with your exwife's arm around you, or you wearing a wedding ring, or you with a highball in a bar.
I am not photogenic either, and I look much better in person too.
Hey Jman, nice to "see" you on this board!
I like pictures that clearly show the person's face, and show them smiling. One "head" shot and one full body shot is sufficient, IMO...I'm always dubious of guys who have a whole bunch of photos (it strikes me as vain and self-centered).
Some don'ts: no sunglasses, at least not in the head shot; no shirtless pics; no pics with your car; no pics with women in them.

Maybe I will do the professional photographer thing.
What's wrong with showing pictures of me with other women I've dated or a wedding ring?
Is does this every happen to anyone?:
When I look in the mirror I like what I see ... and then when I take a picture, my face looks different...it looks wider and the complexion of my skin looks a bit worse...
No, but in pictures my eye's always look crooked.
There have been studies that show we all prefer our mirror images, because that's what we're used to seeing of ourselves. If you created a mirror image of your photo, you'd like it better. :) (I'm not photogenic at all - so I feel your pain. I always seem to have my eyes closed and mouth open when someone clicks a camera).
Some advice for photos:
** SMILE - I always click on the profiles of guys with genuine smiles on their faces. It makes them seem approachable and real.
** Take off hats and sunglasses
** Choose a photo that shows you're capable of: shaving, showering, putting on a clean shirt. ;)
** Don't be one of the guys who takes his photo in front of his computer webcam (usually also wearing a baseball cap and frowning or trying to look bad a**- those turn me off the most)
** Don't post photos of JUST your car or motorcycle (gag)
** One nice head shot and one nice full-body shot (clothed) works well
** No photos with you and a bevy of pretty ladies at a bar. The guys who do that strike me as either insecure ("Look! Women really do like me, I swear") or egotistical ("Hey... Want to be added to the list of 100s of women in my life?")
AJ, enjoying life with C.
