ALLL THE MARRIAGES I KNOW THAT ARE STILL TOGETHER are stay at home moms and the husband works.

the moms do some parttime work but not career driven at all.

i have one friend that is still married and they are both career driven but they are both very traditional in their views towards marriage and have family that help out w/ kids etc..

i do think it makes a difference.. for a lot of different reasons

Actually no. All the couples that I know that have been married longer than 10+ years both people work outside the home.

My parents who were married for 44 years -- my mother stayed at home and my father worked. My mother was home when I was a child and started working when I went to middle school. Ten years later she stopped working and had my two brothers and then finished schooling (PhD) and worked part-time as a college teacher. Ten years later she stopped working due to illness till her death. My dad has remarried.

Most of my married friends (well 2 of them) were divorced before the 10 years mark and both worked. I have one friend who is celebrating 7 years and they both work and have a stepchild who visits every other weekend.

It seems couples who are both career driven and married live close to their families and they help with their children, etc. Unfortunately marriages lasting 10+ years nowadays is a rarity; or so it seems. Outside of our parents; I don't know people who stay together 40+ years. Also, people are getting married older. Just sign of the times.
