Matched with a classmate

I'm not sure what to do. I got a subscription to match, which is now out because I just did it for a month. I was matched with a guy I went to high school with. I am interested in him but I'm not sure what to do. I know he looked at my profile because it shows you who has looked at it, and may have even been multiple times. I'm not sure if he is a member or not, but he didn't message me. I know who he is and I think a little bit about what he is like, buy I never talked to him much while we were in school. We have been out for 6 years. I guess my question is, should I send him message on Facebook? What shouldn't say? Any advice would be appreciated! I have horrible luck with guys so I don't want to do something stupid. I really think he is the kind of guy I'm looking for!

This happened to me twice, that I saw people I knew on match, but I contacted them both through match.

The 1st guy was one I dated a few times about 10 yrs ago, it kind of fizzled out cause then I met my 2nd DH.

I have had him as a friend on facebook for a long time. I'm not sure if I added him or he added me. It been too long ago. I really think I'm going to send him a message, I'm just not sure why to say. I guess what you are saying is that i should go for it, because you never know. Maybe he feels as awkward as i do? Or maybe hes not interested. I guess we will see. What do I have to lose since I will probably never see him anytime soon. What do you think I should say though, what I was thinking was something like "hi. It's been awhile. How have you been?" thanks for your advice!

Responding through the dating site has a higher chance of not being successful since he may be embarrassed to be on it and not want to be outed that he is on there. Or he may not be a member so he wouldn't get the message. FB is the better option.

Trying to think of a good lead in - something casual to get the conversation started like "I was going through my friends list and saw you on there and realized it has been a while since I've heard from you. How have you been? (Then say a sentence or two about yourself, try to hook in any mutual interests you both might have - for example, "been camping a lot" etc. ) What have you been up to?" Keep it simple and see where he goes with it. Novels aren't good.

I just asked him "Hi, how have you been?" at about 3:00 today and he hasn't responded. I saw that he was online this evening and still no response. I guess I will give it a day or so. He is either thinking or not going to respond... I hope he does though! And that I'm not going to regret trying this type of thing again. Being rejected is the worst!

Actually you're still on guy time - 1 -5 days is all the same to us. It's great that you made a move to contact him. Good job! But I'm tossing in this suggestion - it might have helped to write a few more sentences to try to connect with him better. One sentence sounds like someone bored on FB one night and didn't
