Meeting
9
Tue, 12-19-2006 - 12:03am

I asked my "penpal" from the west coast if he knew what dates he was coming to my area yet.

He told me he was coming for a quick business trip from the 8th to the 13th.

We have agreed to meet for coffee early during his stay and maybe one more time for dinner before he leaves.

Let's see if neither one of us changes our mind before then.

Elsa

Thanks. We're supposed to talk on the phone tomorrow (Friday).

This isn't the sort of "dating" I have been looking for (because of the distance thing), but the guy is a good writer, obviously well-read, active in a bunch of interesting activities, not a sports nut, funny . . . all the things I would like in a date except I haven't met him. If we hit it off, and if he really does move to the area in the spring . . . Well, it could be fun.

But that's a lot of "ifs" so I am just enjoying the moment.

By the way, I *have* done some research on him. Just googling can tell you a lot. My only concern (other than whether we will hit it off) is his weight/appearance. His profile only has one picture, and although the face is clear, the body is half-hidden behind a stack of papers. He describes himself as "large" which is fine with me (I am "a few extra pounds") but not if it is a euphemism for "morbidly obese" (which it sometimes is). I was hoping the google would find me a picture, but no luck so far.

Anyway, thanks for the good wishes.

Thanks. A lot may happen between now and then, but it's something fun to look forward to.

and hey, if it makes you feel any better, i'm meeting the guy i've been talking to for 6 months on SUNDAY! =) i would have liked to met earlier but i'm in canada, he's in the states and we're both so busy we couldn't really make the time. anyway, we're probably a lot closer than you are with this guy, but either way the situation is similar so i feel ya! =)

Sounds promising! Cant wait to hear!!!

I recently felt very badly about the weight issue. I am no "waif" myself ... but this guy contacted me who is an MD, lives nearby, travels a LOT, loves good wine - lots of stuff I am interested in - & he contacted me. He has no pic on Match & he has no pic, but puts his "body type" as no answer.

Well good luck to *you* jezeboo! May your meeting go well. Six months is a long time to wait, but at least you get to know each other more gradually.

I'm not sure about this guy. Except for the distance thing, he seems too good to be true. So meeting will help either reassure me or show me why he isn't as good as he sounds.

Yes, weight can be an issue. I am a bit plump myself, so I don't object to a guy who is somewhat obese (even if he's more overweight for his height than I am), but I don't want a tub of lard. And you, who are slender, young and attractive should not be expected to be attracted to a fat man, even if he is an MD and so forth.

Don't feel bad about not being interested in this guy. He needs to be more up-front about his weight/appearance. And he needs to be more realistic about his chances.

Hope things continue to go well for you with Carlos.
