My face and personality don't "match"

I've been emailing one of my iVillage friends about the whole online dating thing, since she is pretty experienced at it. But, I keep getting these odd emails from her, and I couldn't quite understand what she was getting at. After her latest today, I realized that she thought I was completely naive! Seriously, she was talking to me like I was 14. I finally had to say, "yeah, I know that. That's what college was for!"
Then, I realized that now that I'm single, I'm experiencing the same preconceptions that I did back in high school. I have this face that looks very young (and innocent), and I guess people just assume things? (I'm 36 and about to be divorced. I dated quite a bit in college before settling down with my STBX my senior year.) Seriously, I have people who supposedly know me telling me what to look for when a guy is just telling me stuff just because he wants sex!
In fact, I wonder if some of the guys I've chatted with online are surprised at my personality? They seem to back off after a few emails. I swear, it seems that most of them are scoping me out as a potential mother to their children (and companion to THEIR mother!). This one guy talked to me like I was freakin' Shirley Temple.
I've been thinking for a while now that meeting people in person to begin with is going to be much more successful. At least people have a better idea of what I'm really about.
Sorry, I just needed to vent, and this seemed like a good venue!
