Girl Next Door Seeks Guy Next Door

Red Sox fan here, so Yankees lovers need not apply. I try to watch as many Sox games as possible, but sometimes I get a little too emotionally involved, so I have to look away.

I am as comfortable analyzing a Shakespearean play as I am watching any of the Austin Powers movies (The Spy Who Shagged Me is my favorite). I like to read almost anything from popular fiction to classic Russian novels (I had to take a Russian Lit class in college; it surprised me that I liked it.) I'm not a big fan of science fiction, but maybe I just haven't read the right stuff yet.

I love to listen to music. From The Pixies to Pearl Jam to Dar Williams, I just enjoy a good song. I also like going to see live bands perform. I've tried to learn how to play the guitar, but it just ain't happening.

I have a brain full of obscure (and not so obscure) trivia about pop culture, so you want me on your team if we play Trivial Pursuit or other games where knowledge of obscure trivia is a plus. Unfortunately, you can't have a career spouting obscure trivia, so I've made mine in education.

Currently, I am pursuing my master's in education. I taught junior high English for three years in two different schools (private and public). Although it was certainly a memoriable experience, I am looking to do something in the field of education that doesn't include teaching adolescents.

I'm looking for a guy who's dependable, loyal, and honest. You must be passionate about something (even if it's something I know nothing about; I love to learn new things). A well-rounded education and a quirky sense of humor are both plusses.

I like it ;-)! Of course, I'm a Red Sox fan too, so I'm partial!

Trying to think up something nasty, but have drawn a blank.

Good job! Did you research before you put it together?

What kind of pictures are you posting?

Haha, thanks Lizzie. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck! To answer amjay, I have a medium closeup pic of my face and two full body pics. Maybe the pics just don't do me justice because I've had very few responses, especially considering that most women say they are flooded with responses (not even the dirty old men are contacting me! What's up with that? :-P)

Hmm...that does seem odd. Have you tried doing a search to make sure you are coming up in searches for women in your age group? What *is* your age group, btw? That might have something to do with it (not sure if 79 is the year of your birth or when you graduated ;-)).

FWIW, I've had the best luck with winking at guys who interest me rather than waiting for them to approach me, so you might want to try that.

Hi Sheri,
The '79 is my birth year. I'm 26, so my age range for guys goes from 24-34, though I'd prefer someone between 25-28. I just checked to see if I'm coming up in searches and I am, so I guess I just have to wait for my prince to come (gag). Or, I'll have to find some fellas to wink at.

The only other thing I can think of is, is the body type you put on your profile something besides slender, athletic or average? I think the vast majority of guys search ONLY on those body types (and some probably don't search on average). So that's another reason to be pro-active...you wouldn't come up in their searches but if you wink at them, they can look at your photos and see exactly what you mean by whatever category you chose.

Of course, this may not apply...if so, never mind ;-).

There could be other things as well (like, I've noticed that on Yahoo, a lot of men seem to put "smokes occasionally" for their matches, when they are non-smokers--I think that must be the default, but I doubt they really meant to put that)...but without seeing your entire profile, it's hard to speculate.

I have "a few extra pounds" on my profile, which I'm sure is hurting my chances. I could put average (I'm 20 lbs over where I would like to be and probably about 5 over the most I should be for my height going by BMI), but I would rather have a guy whose expectations are low (if that makes sense).
Thanks for everyone's help so far. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't the text of my profile that was turning guys off.

Ah, ok. Unfortunately, that's probably your answer right there. But I agree, I'd rather have someone be favorable suprised than disappointed. But based on my own experience with that I think you will have to be much more pro-active, because most guys won't look beyond body type when they are doing searches, but they might give your profile an extra look if you approach them.

Good luck and keep us posted!

What site are you on?

Match is probably the worst for anyone with a "few extra pounds" especially in this state. Hate to say...and just think of all those hot Yankees fans you are missing out of just because its a rival team...the guy I'm dating loves the Red Sox and I'm a Yankees fan, we tease each other all the time about the rivalry...
