Do you ever start communication with someone and all seems good....until you learn their real name? Are you ever so turned off by someone's name that you have a hard time imagining dating them?

I don't think I've ever communicated with anyone who had anything but a normal name, so I couldn't say. Have you?

Well, so far I've noticed that every single one of the OLD guys whose names I have learned has a one-syllable name. Of course, this is common among American males (Bob, Joe, Jim, Ted, etc.) but the only two-syllable-named date I had was not OLD!

LOL Well, I was going to say that's about the silliest thing to turn you off, and that it'd be crazy to bypass someone for their name...

...but then I remembered the time that I got a wink from a gal. Looked at her profile and hmmm, she's interesting. Pretty, smart, funny, sexy. I'm getting really interested. I wink back and send her an email...

...and she answers it, and it turns out that she has the same name as...

MY MOM!

YIKES! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! I THINK I JUST THREW UP IN MY MOUTH!

That was probably the biggest temptation I ever had to ghost, but I wrote the gal back and said "You know, I'm sorry, and this is going to sound totally stupid, but my mom's name is XXXXXXXXX and there is just no way I can get around that. We're not a match."

To her credit, she sent a nice note laughing and saying she understood. Too bad. Maybe if she'd agreed to immediately change her name and never ever ever use the original one (Mom's name) again, it might have worked out...

I'm sorry, but if Cindy Crawford or Elle MacPherson or Catherine Zeta-Jones or Halle Berry or Brooke Burke or Monica Bellucci or Heidi Klum had my mom's name, they wouldn't be hot.

I don't care HOW hot/smart/funny/caring a women is, if she's got my mom's name, I couldn't be with her. Period.

I mean, how sick would it be to be getting... um... physical, and scream out your MOM's name?

That's just gross. I'm grossed out just THINKING it. I think I just threw up in my mouth AGAIN.

So yeah, I can see bypassing someone over their name.

It'd have to be for an awfully good reason like that, though- sharing the name with your mom/dad, or maybe the same name as your ex, or something like that.

(OTOH, the people that wind up with someone with the same name as their ex always crack me up- talk about trying to replace them! At least they don't have the "screaming out the wrong name" problem.)

You are just too funny!!! I guess I couldn't date someone with my Dad's name either!! The first online date I had was with someone with the same name as my ex AND his ex had my same name! freaky...Two guys I've met have had names that instantly turned me off. One was Milton and the other was Dana (it was a guy!)

I attract strange names:

Wilfred
Eldon
Alar (Estonian)

The name is not what I held against them. :)

Too funny. A had a massive crush immediately post-divorce, and the guy had the same name as the ex. Of course he was about fifteen years younger and infinitely hotter than the ex. Somehow perfect abs make names irrelevant. ;-)

>>Somehow perfect abs make names irrelevant. ;-)<<

Well, I guess I have some Oedipal issues to work through then, because I could be offered perfectly flat, hard, delicious abs (attached to a really hot bod and a brilliant, funny mind) and if it went by my mom's name, I couldn't take it. LOL
