Need response help

I haven't really been using on-line dating but this morning I decided to reinvigorate an old match profile. I added some new pics and took it off hide. Then I winked at a few men.

One of the guys that seemed interesting just emailed me back:

"Hi, pretty lady, I would love to meet you."

I think he is moving a little fast for my tastes but might be a nice guy. I'd rather email a few times, then get on the phone, then meet. I don't know whether he is an ax murderer, a serial dater or just someone that who doesn't know much about on-line etiquette. How do I proceed?

Well, I don't think an ax murderer would reveal himself in a few emails and a phone call ;-), but I do understand wanting to have a bit of interaction before agreeing to meet!

If you can get beyond the "pretty lady" comment (ick!!! That would bother me more than him saying he wanted to meet you), then I would write back something like, "hi, thanks for your response" and then just ask a couple questions based on his profile and/or comment on some things you think you have in common. In other words, just gloss over the meeting suggestion for now.

Are you on line to date or to pretend you want to? "Hi pretty lady, would like to meet you" is not a pick-up line, it is a flirty introduction. You respond with something like "Possibly, but let's see what we have in common first." Then the e-mails proceed form there. If you get a bad feeling after a few or you just don't like him, say "no thanks". Do not give your phone number or any personal information except your first name until after the first face to face meeting. On line etiquette is the same as etiquette anywhere. If they seem pushy or lack manners online, they most likely do off line as well.

I'm with Sheri that the "pretty lady" comment would bug me more than the "I'd love to meet".
