I have dabbled with Match before but I have just joined again and determined that this time, I refuse to give up so easy. But lordy it is hard.

First, how is it that some guys who contact me are lovely and nice, and some guys are horribly wrong -- just wrong.

I think a lot of it is just plain luck--I know women who have met their BF very early in the search & others who it took a long time.

I had to go on dates with about 30 different men on OLD before I met my boyfriend, who is now my fiance. Yes, many lie about their age, height

Thanks for the advice. So today, I get contacted by a 40 year old nice looking guy who is a professor a college. Although, I can't really see his pic. Then I get an e-mail from a 22 (I am sorry obviously just off the boat from some foreign place) guy who talks me to me like this -- HOW U DNNN?

How could these two people possibly both think I would be a good match for them. One of them got an e-mail back... guess who?

It does seem like people pick me totally randomly.

I have decided to try that as well, I am trying to wink at 10 people per day.

I have never been on match but started out on plenty of fish and on there, I ended up with all kinds of strange guys, etc.

So here is the first thing that seems to happen to me.... tons of interest and then... nada... they all went away... what is up with that? I mean it has been mostly winking so it can't be what I said... I don't get it.

OMG, don't wink at ten people per day...Better to send one genuine email per week. Winking is for wimps...I don't usually respond to them unless they come from someone I have previously put on my favorites list.

Yes, you are going to get a lot of messages from guys who are wildly inappropriate. Just delete, delete, delete!

Think of it as grocery shopping. You are the one who picks what you want off the shelf. The groceries don't choose you!

See now I can't really tell what I want. I mean truely, it is so hard to see faces and get an impression of someone online... it makes me think I have to wink at whomever fits the broad criteria and then go from there. Also, so many I think are just not really on match seriously. I winked at 35 people in the last week and got like 3 responses. Now of course, could have been me, but I think it is more guys who are actually on match but still have the profile up. At least I don't waste my time sending a thoughtful e-mail only to have no one there on the other end.

I actually am the other way, I would prefer a wink - and e-mail puts pressure on me to respond and I don't like that.

Well thanks for not making me feel so bad. I had been making an effort this past weekend to actually read some profiles and I sent winks to maybe 10 and haven't heard anything and I was thinking it was me.
