Well...I put up a profile on singleparentsmingle.

If anyone wants to check it out, I'm SidesaddleGal on there.

I haven't paid yet. I'll wait and see what the response is.

Well, if it's any consolation (or incentive to pay for a month) it's probably legit mail. I got a couple of winks, but no mail, so I don't think they employ the dubious practice of "bait mail".

They don't seem to have a lot of members.

If you look at the who's online there were maybe 40 people nationwide this AM.

In no instance would I subscribe for over a month because there doesn't look like enough members in my state to justify that (once you back out the non-paying) And it appears that it's tough to slip in an email because you are only able to read the headlines on incoming emails if you are not a member.

I do like the overall inteface, the fact that it's niche oriented, the ability to instant message, send happy groundhog day cards, and the profile text seems to be updated nearly instantly.

I'm unsure whether I'll subscribe or post a picture. I've never been on simultaneous sites before though I am testing a few ads on CL (Note to guys: If you're trying to create a funny profile -- use Craigslist to test the response for free. It won't have anywhere near the number of views - but if you get responses to your profile w/o a picture you have to figure the rate would be better with a pic in a high traffic site).

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of men in my area. And so far, they appear to be new faces, or at least I've never seen them on match, AS or love access.

I wonder how old this site is? I've never heard of it before.

I don't know how long they've been out - one of the links (url) has the word beta in it -- so perhaps they're just rolling out the site.

I wouldn't be opposed to paying to join up -- it's not an overwhelming amount. I think as "veterans" we're much better prepared to be efficient with that one month's time than a newbie who spent 3 weeks of that time emailing one guy.

I'd also approach this site different. If I were to do it I'd:

1) Sign up for one month
2) Take one month off
3) Come back the next month with a new account (thus giving up any discounts)- new lead photo - but also achieving preferred rotation at the top of the heap. I am starting to think this is a smarter short-term solution. (Long term I don't think it works as well but it could be a good one for a 6 month try - which means you create 3 new profiles).

Weird site.

On Match I'd rarely hear from people out of state. Here I've gotten stuff from people out in the middle of nowhere. Maybe this will turn out to be more of a chat site than a dating site.

Lg - Keep us posted on your experiences. CL fascinates me and I'd love to hear about someone actually meeting a normal person on that site (apart from our beloved CGUN, of course :)

I don't know how normal the people on CL will turn out to be. I had 4 responses -- two of which wrote back. They seemed normal on the surface. I now view CL as somewhat of a testing ground for the main profile text. You don't have to pay anything and if you can prompt resplies wihtout posting a picture you've probably caught onto a good topic to spotlight in your profile. I'm not sure how well it would work for women though.

Looks like this site will make you a "life member" for $60.

They also have an interesting array of pretty good opening lines you can send as part of a smile -- they must have 40 of them -- asking for a picture - asking if people are a member, etc -- though I think these would be cool opening lines if they allowed them:

"Hi. I'm typing with one hand as I view your photo"
"Could I borrow $20"
"Do Something. Show me your tties - I'm Rick James Beeyotch"

I get a LOT of curiousity seekers. Online profiles can be so bad that you just need to stand out a little bit..
