Newbie With a Question

Hi, I'm Lorrie and a newbie to this board. I have a question which I've always been curious about. I am a martial artist and when I was doing OLD I put that in my profile with my rank because it is an accomplishment, which I am very proud of.

If you read this in a profile, would it be intimidating to you and prevent you from contacting someone?

I've asked people and they say no, but then they make the comment at some point "But you can kick my butt".

Wouldn't affect me. I think if you're looking for someone with similar interests it would be a strong positive. The more specifics - the better the match.

I am a measly bluebelt but that hasn't stopped me from putting it in my profile (whenever I put it up). Look at it this way - if the guy can't handle it, he ain't the guy for you anyway. And I think it's good that they know you can kick their butt.

Oh a Blue Belt isn't measly at all! I'm the same mindset as you posted though. I'll continue putting it in my profile though as I am very proud of it. I was just curious - one of those things that pop up and just makes you wonder.

Congratulations to both you and Lisa! I have been following my nephew's rise up the belt ranks and I have seen first hand what hard work it is. Each belt was an individual accomplishment.

Hi and welcome. In my profile I was hesitant to put that I have a degree in Psychology. I had several people say "guys will think you're analyzing them all the time". Which I'm not (don't say anything amjay!)...I might have the degree but I'm in the finance industry now...so I say go for it..and if you can kick their butt more power to you!!!!

  1. A lot of guys are turned on by a girl who can hold their own in a fight.

Ha! I know what you're saying - same reason why I don't specify in my profile that I'm psychotherapist. .

Well thank you very much. I'm not too worried about it, just more curious then anything as sometimes I don't think I get a straight answer from people I ask. lol. As for being in shape, I'm getting there, still lots of work to be done though.

Thank you. It is an accomplishment I am very proud of though at the Black Belt test it was very hard as my mother had just died 2 weeks before and that was a true test of inner strength to get through the test when I didn't really want to do it.
