really?  this guy couldn't think of a question to ask me or say anything that would give me a faint glimmer of hope that he's interested?  is he typing from his iphone or droid that makes it difficult to type?  I copied our emails below

Hi,
Happy New Year. Nice pics. I used to be a runner but had knee surgery. It's not the same for me anymore.

Sorry to hear that . Happy new year

Assuming he is the 2nd one, then I'd say he's not interested, but who can tell what guys want?

I found this guy who was going on pretty much about really wanting a relationship, not just dinner dates and such, so I emailed him something that was more than a few sentences, then I got a response that must have been from his phone because he used "u" for "you"--and this guy is a college grad.  It was like "U are so good looking that u must have tons of guys after you" and I couldn't figure out whether that meant he was interested or it was a fake compliment like "I'm not interested but if I tell you you're good looking, then you won't feel bad" so I actually asked him "does this mean you're interested or not?"  I didn't hear anything from him (this was a few days ago) so I thought oh, this means no--but then he wished me a happy new year last night--so why would he even bother if he's totally uninterested?  I figure that he's probably talking to someone else but somehow wants to keep me on the line--am I cynical or what?

yes, he's the reply at the bottom.  I don't know much about guys either but the guy you're dealing with could be interested.  He could be talking to other girls, it's a dating site, be happy you are one of his choices - if that is the case.  It's better than nothing.

Well I'm going to need more than happy new year to progress to a date!

He wrote back again to ask if I went dancing on NYE like I said--but he's still writing one sentence at a time.

I'd say he is probably both not interested and typing from his phone. Definitely one bad side effect of everything going mobile, short sentences, bad writing.

I think he would delete your email and not even reply if he wasn't interested, but he did reply.  I was thinking about this at work today. If you are talking to a person face to face, you would say one sentence and then stop and look at the other person so he could respond and say something.  Maybe he is just imagining talking to you at a bar, you know.  Maybe when he talks to other people he usually says one sentence and then waits for the person to say something back.

Well the short emails are still going on--the past 2 days I got one around lunch time.  I am going to see, just out of curiosity, how long this goes on before he goes further & asks to meet--normally I'd be pressing to meet but it's not like it's taking up a lot of my time and I'm kind of busy with things to do so I'm not in a rush.  I have to say that I've changed a lot since I started doing OLD.  Before if I even emailed someone first (before they even wrote back) I'd be fantasizing in my head about being together, now I am much more detached emotionally so I don't really care that much if this guy responds or not.

good for you!!  regarding this:  I have to say that I've changed a lot since I started doing OLD.  Before if I even emailed someone first (before they even wrote back) I'd be fantasizing in my head about being together, now I am much more detached emotionally so I don't really care that much if this guy responds or not.

Also, don't believe the old wives' tale that men should make the first move.  This is 2013 and women can ask men out!! Well I mean it's not like we can say "Do you want to go out Firday at 8 pm to ABC restaruant?"  We can at least say something like "I like emailing with you.  I think we should meet one day"

Some guys don't email/text well. To some it seems like they are having a convo, you say something, they say something back, and usually it is just a sentence.

If he is interesting enough, keep the chat up and see how it goes. Maybe they just aren't very talkative unless in person.

No he may not know what to say.  Many men are not comfortable when emailing until they get a idea of your interests.  If you had running in your profile then that is what he is trying to allude to.

Remember we are in the texting world!  Short and to the point.  Ask fo a meeting asap!  The best way is to meet.
