This commercial just annoys me to no end. Why is a woman plugging this? It's on every 15 minutes. And that whole "strong, lasting" verbage that is repeated over and over - duh! What is the difference between this one, Viagra and Cialis? Anything? And is ED an epidemic these days? As much as I see that commercial, you'd think so.

Hi Lisa,
From what I understand, I believe the differences in the erectile dysfuntion meds are like this:
VIAGRA - For men who can't get it up at all, but others can use it also. No stimulation is needed with this one for it to start working. I can't remember if it is 4 or 8 hours that it will last from after taken. But if a guy is hard longer than 4 hours though, they tell them to go to the hospital immediately - yet my good friend is an ER nurse and has never seen a guy come in to the hospital with that problem, so I think it's actually very rare.
LEVITRA - This one lasts for upto 8 hours but some stimulation is needed to jump start it. It isn't an 8 hour constant erection, but the recovery time for another erection is much faster during the 8 hours.
CIALIS - Known as "The Weekend Warrior" by the docs, as it has the potential to last upto 36 hours and is being prescribed also to younger guys who want an extended period or weekend of fun, and which also provides a quicker recovery time for additional sex. With this one though, as with Levitra, a guy needs some stimulation for it to work.
A problem with all of them though can be that a guy can get hard and stay hard, but it may take a very long time for him to climax, which can be nice for the lady but I'm sure frustrating for the guy. Also, some guys are on anti-depressant meds which can mess with erections and libido, so these meds can help them also. They also say some guys might see a bluish haze after they climax.
I was with a guy who used the first two I mentioned, and it really helped him, as he couldn't stay hard longer than 4 or 5 minutes. But after these meds, his erection was harder than ever, and orgasms were very intense (he said)...much better I thought, and he seemed much happier about everything and so was I!
But I think they're great meds for anyone who might benefit from them and many ages are using them, so it's not just the older guys! Quality of life is much better with them! Many docs will give the guys samples of all 3 kinds to try so that they can see which one they like the best. If no RX coverage though, they are around $10 a pill, so I'd say the 36 hour weekend warrior would be the better deal then!
Just a little info that I thought I'd share.... Yes the commercials are annoying, but these companies are making tons of money as many people ARE having problems with erectile dysfuntion. I wish I had invested in stocks in these companies! And no I do not work for any of these companies! ;)

I wonder how much ED can be attributed to anti-depressants. That's interesting. Seems like more and more people are taking anti-depressants as I get older. So you're already depressed, then ya can't get it up (even more depressing), so then ya gotta take something else to make that happen. Kinda scary.

I know; sometimes I feel like I'm the only person I know who's not on them.
And I've dated a couple guys who had ED problems due to those medications(at least I'm assuming it wasn't me :). Their problem wasn't getting it up; it was more along the lines of taking forever to finish. I know a lot of women would say "sign me up for that" but I found it annoying. I mean, I don't have all night :)
Oh, and I hate those commercials too. I find them a lot more offensive than Janet Jackson's boob.
Hi Lisa,
I think much of ED can be attributed to anti-depressants. The doctors figure it's better to treat the depression, anxiety, etc. and then deal with the side affects from these meds- yes lower libido if wanting to have sex at all, erection problems (either not being able to get off but staying hard for a very long time). Yes I think it is a vicious cycle when a man is feeling down anyway, then add to it erection problems that he never had before to make him question himself.
I don't believe people tell their docs about the sexual problems that the anti-depressants cause and so the stats are not accurate in that area. It's embarrassing for people to talk about so they just don't tell their docs. Also, I don't think docs tell their patients just how high of a possibility it is that they may experience sexual problems caused from taking the anti-depressants, because if they did, more people would decline the meds.
But the anti-depressants can do the same to women also - decrease their libido and make it so that it takes forever to climax, if they can at all. The only one I have heard of that actually increases libido and feelings in that area is Wellbutrin, which is also the drug used to help people to quit smokihg...it is said to increase libido and sensitivity to stimulation. Hmmmm....
Yeah, I have also noticed more people on anti-depressants as I have gotten older. But we live in a totally stressed world and I feel that many people get on them to cope with their crazy lives and just never get off of them, instead of using them to help temporarily.
My dad takes Prozac for depression and without it would just sit in his recliner all day and not talk to anyone or do anything - but with it, he talks and is more content and does things everyday - he definitely has a chemical imbalance and needs the medication. Many people are really helped by them for quality of life - unfortunately the side effects suck. My mom doesn't seem to mind dad not wanting to have sex as much, so I guess it works for them. They are mid 60's now.

Hi icarrie,
Did the guys you were with that had the ED problems take meds to help? Yes I can understand your statement about it being annoying with taking all night! Well I'm sure it wasn't you and it was "their" problem, but it does make you wonder some doesn't it - even though you know you're totally hot! ;)
I believe some Blood Pressure meds can mess with erections also... so much the docs don't share with the patients!
