Is this pessimistic?

OK, a friend of mine who is also doing OLD commented that I didn't seem "excited" about meeting a guy tonight I guess because I have an "out" where some friends are having a happy hour that I can use if things are not going well. To which I responded:

<>

She responded back with "Somebody's New Year doesn't seem like it's starting off bathed in sunshine ;-)" basically implying that I am being negative. I personally think I am being more realistic because I REFUSE to get excited again only to be disappointed. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised at having a good time than let down.

Do you guys think this attitude is too negative?

She's new to OLD, right? LOL

I think you're being pragmatic and smart.

We all have dif’t styles – you’re keeping it “real” nothing wrong with that. If you do hit it off then you’ll be more excited or cautiously excited as it takes time, LOL.

Yup, pretty new and she's only done eHarmony and definitely more off than on.

Thanks ya'll. I was concerned that I was being negative. I do HOPE tonight goes well, but I'd rather keep my expectations low to moderate than get hyped up. I remember doing that back in the beginning and I'd get SO disappointed when there was no chemistry. I always felt like it was something wrong with me. Now I know it's not and would rather just be pleasantly surprised if it goes well.
