What does "I need someone who is open minded" mean?

To me it means someone who is into having sex with no strings or perhaps someone who is "kinky"

Hey lg,

I think "open minded" is meant to describe a person who does not have tunnel vision and would be willing to explore new ideas and things. Someone who doesn't have rigid rules for living their life and can "go with the flow". And finally, it would be the OPPOSITE of someone who thinks their opinion/values are superior to others and therefore you should adopt them too.

Perhaps the person that wrote that has been in relationships where she felt stifled and bored.

Either they're looking for weird sex or their ex was a know-it-all. Not so good either way.

I don't think it's necessarily a sex thing. It could be that they are a member of a "fringe" religion, or have something about their personality that is different from the normal.

What is it in reference to, if anything?

I would take it as looking for someone who is not a bigot; my first thought is there are interracial couples or children in her family and some people have been less than tolerant of that.

Wow, I must be naive, because until I read through the thread the thought of kinky sex regarding an "open mind" never entered my mind. My initial thought to it was they were looking for someone who was open to new thoughts or views on a subject. Someone that, even if they didn't necessarily agree with another person's point of view, could still accept that their's wasn't the only/right view.

That would be my first thought as well...someone who is tolerant and accepting.
