How do you all feel about the idea of "Speed Dating"?

I just read and article about how it works. They take around 15-25 people, depending, and put them in a part like atmosphere and you each get like anywhere from 3-5 minutes each to talk and get to know one another. When the time is up, you move to the next one. It does cost money and you can get free drinks out the deal. You all get labeled with numbers and then in the end you choose. Here is a website I found, if you all want to check it out. Let me know what you think. Comments and arguements welcome. lol

****My thoughts are that I dont see how this would work. In 3 mins how can you find out enough to know if you want to see this person. I need more than 3 minutes to talk to the guy. I mean, I could say...in three minutes, whether I would a) just sleep with him, b)go on a date, or c) nothing at all. Now, this is all I can come up with in that time frame. Is this type of thing for acutal serious dating or just fun? Im curious.

I guess I have seen that on TV (perhaps as part of "Sex and the city" I do not remember) and I also thought how should that work!? It's mostly based on looks then because nobody would be able to start a deeper conversation in just 3 minutes. I guess the main goal of that is to find people for potential dates but for me it would be like being on a cattle market and make as many people as possible look at you in the shortest amount of time.

I mean I sometimes felt like a used car when putting up a profile on a dating page but cattle is even worse, right? ;-)

Good question!

Gail,

I dunno, they're coming out with more and more ways to match make. I don't think it would be any worse than what we're all doing now. Besides,I think a lot of it is just for fun, I personally wouldn't do it because it's basically like chatrooms except you're in person:P. But you gotta be open to ideas...lol. That's my two cents!

It may work for some, but I would never do it. I can't imagine trying to make a good first impression in 5 minutes. And then have to do it 20 more times. I'm exhausted just thinking about it! lol

I totally agree with Nicole - I would feel like I was at a cattle auction - just like the meat market at the bar, but so much worse.

I agree totally!!! lol It just seems worse than on line dating has ever been to most. You know how you tell people when you met your man, oh I met online, well that would seem even worse to tell someone how you met during a speed date session. No. Not for me either.

P.S. I know how to speed date on my own and it has nothing to with dating. TEEHEEE Im so bad. lol

Gail your funny hhahhaa! Speed dating??, i don't think it will work for me but to some maybe yes. It's like putting your best shoes in front for 3 mins, then sharing it again with another man in every 3 mins. or so, then at the end who ever likes the "shoe" will get it lol. I think some will do it just for fun but not for me, online dating is hard enough for me.
