Read Match.Com emails without notification?

Okay, now this is going to be veeeerry random...

Does anyone know of a way to read emails you've received from someone on Match without them being notified that you read it?

Like I received an email from a "Greenie" that I know can see I read the email when I, in fact read it...and I'd like to be able to sneak a peak at the email without him knowing because I don't have the time to properly respond until tomorrow...

I know this is ridiculous but, I like to work the system a little bit, can't help it! :)

I can answer my own question (well, so far I think it works) If anyone wants to know: gmail has a "lab" feature called "Message Sneak Peak" which allows you to right click on an email and shows you the content of the email without ever opening the email.

So nowwww you may never know if someone actually reads your emails!

How about when you get the notification in your regular email that someone has sent you an email?

I always thought that worked but suddenly I wasn't sure. That or they were trying to trick me...some guy sent and email and I read it and went to bed. When I woke up the next day I saw an email from the guy again making a comment about how he could see that I read the message and he would have appreciated a simple response back.

(Don't even GET me started that I quite possibly was going to respond to this guy...but dude, if you CAN see that I read the email from my personal email...you can see it was nearly midnight on a week night...you probably should've given me the benefit of the doubt and at least 24 hours to respond before you decided i was never going to get around to it!)

At any rate...are we sure they can't see when we read it straight from our personal NON-MATCH email account?

Yes I believe Match can know when you open an email from them, even if it is in in your personal email on your home computer, like using Outlook Express or whatever, or whether you are using GMail or Yahoo, etc. They can do this because they send HTML email. All the images, the GIFs and the JPEGs, that are embedded in those emails, are stored on their servers back at Match.com. So when you open the email, all those images are brought down from their servers, which tells them, "AHA!", so and so opened this particular email. They can embed tracker images , like blank images that contain some specific info about who this email was sent to.

So the only way to stay anonymous would be to use the previewer feature that someoen was talking about where it shows you the text of the mail without the accompanying images. Also I notice in my Gmail, anything that goes into the Spam folder, if I open it, it automatically blocks the images from displaying unless you click on the link saying its ok to display. So I wonder if it would work to move the message into the spam folder and then open it and don't let it open the images.

Gee--are people supposed to have nothing to do but read email and respond immediately?

Since you seem to know a lot about computers, I'll ask you this question.

Often times when people set up their email accounts they put in their name. This usually gets sent with every email that goes out, along with the address its coming from. I guess you could think of it just like a regular piece of mail. Usually people write their return address in the corner along with their name. But of course you don't have to, you can leave off your name, etc. So in your particular email program or client that you use, there are settings to change your display name, or leave it blank if desired. I don't know the thing to click on AOL, but its probably under Settings or Account Settings or Profile or something like that. So when you see other people names in your address book its usually because they are sending the names along with their email address.

I would think in order to provide another layer of security when doing online dating, you should set up an email address that you use specifically for dating purposes. Similarily its not a bad idea to have another email address that you use for ordering things online or posting to public message boards, etc. You can set up another address that doesn't have your name in it or anything else that would identify you. Also if a particular site or place of business that you use gets hacked, all they would have is your anonymous secondary email account.

Also with some webmail sites like Gmail, you can set up forwarding or selective forwarding and have things forwarded to your other address so you know that something has arrived.

Yes also there are "aliases" that can be used to have say dating sites go to but are forwarded to the regular email.

not really let us look at that time line a bit/ if you opened it at say 11 and then did other things went to be but guy is informed you opened it he may just be reacting to all that open and never reply. It is frustration itself.

Yes. But not only do they tell others you've read their emails, but by looking at their notification email and allowing thr pictures to load, they list you as being 'online'. I learned this the hard way as i hadn't signed in for some time (while seeing someone) and opened an email - well my 'last online' activity was updated and created a potentially awkward conversation. I went and created a second profile to test the various triggers and came up with the pictures in email link. Hope this helps.
