Reasons to Stick with OLD!

Hi Y'all,

The Cupcake is back in the Howwwze! Merry Christmas and Feliz 2006!

To some of you newbies, I am a stranger, but the old schoolers will recognize me. I have monitored everyone's progress throught the board, as time has permitted. Laughed, cried, rejoiced with you all. There are Good reasons to stick with OLD!

Case in point: Many of u might remember that I met Tall Man(TM) 9 months ago. He has been just what my Cupcake heart desired from the beginning. Yes, we have gone through periods of adjumstment and understanding, getting to know each other better each day. His ex's behaviour has been a bit of a trial at times; but mostly because I feel that as the man he IS, he should always be treated with respect and care, and she does not do that, for the most part. But...clue #1 here: ASK yourself, when issues like this surface, "IS this a "we" thing?"; ie, will it change One thing about your relationship with your man? If not, drop it like it's Hot! Move forward. Don't get into things that do not touch Your planet! But...when it does leave footprints on Your turf; be fair and reasonable and express your opinion. I know we will have differences, I celebrate them, and I See that we can get throught them without yelling, harsh words, and we can move On, quickly, together. It has made us a strong team. I enjoy his children, and he enjoys mine, and I feel that the issue with his ex will subside in time, especially since it is Not a "we' thing. My respect for him leads me to let Him deal with His 'things' as he will, as he does me, with mine.

So, he took us all to Disneyworld for Christmas and it was truly wonderful. On our 9 month anniversary, he proposed to me at Cinderella's castle in the most romantic, beautifully orchestrated way Imagineable...my ring was set in a small glass slipper that said "Be My Princess Forever", and engraved with our names. It was brought to the table after a great dinner, as a special dessert, and then he began talking and we Both cried. Then came, photographers, champagne in special glasses, and a chocolate mousse dessert that had written on the edge of the plate in Chocolate :0 "Will You Marry Me?" I could not have Dreamed of better!

While this is awesome, it is his respect, friendship, caring and love that make it even Better! This is the reason you all should hang in there. Without Match.com, I would never have met him, though we lived in the same neighborhood at the time we met! We decided we even shopped at the same grocery store...but we did not meet IRL. Try, enjoy and learn....this will lead to your success.

We plan to marry in a few months; I am in the middle of selling my house (too large with my oldest grown and gone now, and my 16yr old with only 1 yr left at home), we both have lots of work...oh, and New Year's Eve in Miami, too!

BE who you ARE and accept someone for who They are...love them for what they bring to you, and how you can make Them feel. Go by your own plan and instincts, but DO listen to the expertise of those here on the board. Realize you are never alone in this!

Dare to Dream, Plan to Succeed!

Best o luck to All.

Truly,
Cupcake

Oh, Cupcake, that's wonderful! I know you're supposed to say "best wishes" not Congratulations to a woman on her engagement, but Ivillage doesn't have that option in its emoticons, so congrats will have to do ;-).

It sounds like a wonderful, romantic proposal. I'm very happy for you...and I love hearing OLD success stories like yours, especially since we are of a similar age.

And if it's ok, I'd love to be able to reference you when folks get down... :o)
