Is anyone here LDS? I thought they were really strict about diet and such. I got a wink from a guy who has LDS under religion, yet he's a daily smoker. Huh?

I looked up LDS on Wikipedia and it did say they're supposed to live by the "Word of Wisdom" which entails "caring for one's body" by not consuming certain items, such as alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine.

And the Baptists that aren't supposed to drink or dance. I was raised Baptist and know for a fact that both things happened in my house. LOL

I live in "little utah" (we have a large popluation of LDS aka mormons) No worries, it just means he is "jack mormon". Ask if he goes to temple..my guess is no.

Most LDS people I know don't smoke or drink, but there are always those who might claim the faith but still partake in things the "church" doesn't believe in. If you know nothing about the LDS (Mormon) faith and are considering going out with this guy, I'd suggest doing some research on this religion. You would be quite surprised about it. Very different from mainstream Christianity. However, if his "faith" is of little importance to him, it might not be a stumbling block. I'd say he's not an active member or he'd be seeking an LDS girl to date.

That's why I was asking - I wouldn't date anyone very active in certain religions. And I didn't think LDS allowed smoking, which is why I was confused.

Well, it's not like we've even emailed yet. I was just curious about the apparent conflict.
