Report on the first week back out there

And it basically sucks ;-). But I knew it would, so I'm not surprised.

First off, I take back what I said about the new "no thanks" feature on Match (I said despite my strong dislike for thanks but no thanks emails I thought that might be ok)...it's HORRIBLE!!!! I *hate* it. I wish there was a way I could disable it so that I didn't know when people have sent them.

I do have a first meeting tonight so that's something but the guy is being pissy about me actually having a life and not wanting to talk to him all the time (what for???? We have our meeting set, why do we need to talk??? I don't get that), so I was thinking of cancelling but decided to give it a shot. And I'm at the phone stage with another guy...we had our first convo and he wants to talk again...he emailed and said he'd call on Sunday. If he doesn't mention getting together, I'll say something and if he doesn't schedule something, that'll be that.

These 2 are both from CL, btw. I sent my photo to 3 guys and one didn't write back (oh well, but it's better than him writing back and saying he didn't like my picture!!!). That the thing I don't like about CL, you have to take the photo risk!

Sent out about 15 winks/icebreakers on Match and Yahoo. Got one wink back, so I sent him an email *with* my yahoo email address in it....and nothing. WHY do these guys wink back if they aren't interested???? (Rhetorical question, I know) Got several of those horrible "this person has reviewed your profile and is not interested" responses but that's it. The only winks/emails I've received have been from oompa loompas.

Oh well, it's a necessary evil...trying to keep a good frame of mind but it's hard.

the guy winked back and then you wrote him but didnt writ eback.. maybe he didnt have the time to write back yet? I wouldn't discount him yet.

hang in there with the OLD stuff. Gets easier. and btw, you are a brave woman with CL. Its pretty unnerving to exchange photos - cuz you risk rejection by the photo. I hate that about CL and teh prospects in my area for CL aren't really quality. Not sure about your area, but i give you kudos for doing CL

S-

It's still as casual as ever out there. People disappearing just as much now as before - even if they are being more active in the weeks after the holidays.

Nah, it's been a couple days with the mutual winks guy, and he's been online in the meantime. Oh well.

I actually just got an email from one of the guys I winked at this morning, but of course he didn't put an email address in his response, so now I have to think about renewing my subscription...and it's gone up to $29.99 for a month from $24.99! I'm not sure this guy is worth joining for (I was on the fence about winking at him but I'm trying to cast a broad net), so I'm going to wait a couple more days and see what if any additional interest I get.

I agree with CL...I had to comb through a LOT of awful ads to find even 3 I was interested in responding to, plus there's the photo thing, so I don't think I'll use it very often, other than for reading amusement!

"WHY do these guys wink back if they aren't interested????"

I'd ask the same question of the girls.

I wink at them, they wink back, I send an email, then never hear from them, even with a regular email address enclosed.

You do know that Match strips email addresses when sent to non-paying members - right?

I have to admit to having done that before. It was more just a case that I was either on the fence or really not feeling it but not repulsed either when I winked back and then when the email came, I just decided it wasn't worth it and I just disappeared. Probably not one of my better moments, but oh well.

I know you've said that before...but I haven't seen it happen (I always have them send me a cc of the match email I send with my yahoo address in it, and it's always there). So, does that mean all the guys I've written to are paying members? That seems unlikely. Plus, I've had guys email me directly at my yahoo address (without responding to me through match)...I guess they could have all been paying members and that's just coincidence? Hmm...

If someone who is a paying member would be willing to do an experiment and send me an email with an email address in it, I'd appreciate it, just to answer this question once and for all. My match ID is middleburygrad.

Thanks! It did indeed get removed. Bummer...

Would you do me one more favor? Could you email me one more time to see if it strips it out if you put it in a sentence rather than the way you would normally write an email address (like "you can reach me at NWW at hotmail" or something like that)?

And thanks for the compliment ;-)! I'm happy with the new pics...we shall see.
