Should I worry about Webcam?

I am not the most technically advanced person. I signed on to Match.com and some people I am talking with are very nice. They have webcams too - which I haven't looked at because I don't have a webcam and I am not sure what the deal is with them. Is it common to have webcam - I guess I associate it with porn - LOL! Anway, just wondering if the webcam thing is the usual these days. Thanks!

It CAN turn into something dirty (and does more often than not), but

Sometimes it can turn into something dirty...which could be a good thing...Depends on how you look at it.

To each their own...That is what I say!!!

Eh... it's not really common, and it's not uncommon. Don't worry about not having one; you can do just fine with OLD without one.

If you DO want one, it doesn't have to be a "do you wanna see me naked" kind of thing, either; you just immediately cut off anyone who's into that, like CG said.

I'd say don't bother with one for now. Anyone who gives you crap about not having it isn't worth talking to anyway.

It wasn't like that at all. He didn't give me crap for not having one. he had asked if I did, because he did. He didn't have any bad intentions. I was just wondering if this was the norm. Thanks!

No, I would not say it's the norm. Webcams give me the willies. The only person I know who has one is The Liar (an ex of mine who lied about keeping his profiles up online when we were supposedly exclusive), and while I don't know this for sure, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that he used it for online sex. Ick.

I think it's creepy even if it's not used for that purpose. Meet in person, what the heck do you need a webcam for????

I don't think you should rush out and buy one. I never had one and don't really see the purpose. Like Sheri said, you should just meet.

I don't have one. But I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Even if one chooses to have E-Sex. That is totally their business. I don't feel it makes them groce, or a pervert..or anything.

Webcams really don't have great reception.

Either way, I don't think it is that big of a deal.

Oh I agree! I don't care what other people do. It's just not for me. Plus ALL cameras add 10 to 15 pounds and I don't need any more meat on these bones than what's there already!

But I don't see what the purpose is (in OLD) if you're going to meet anyway? I think it would probably just delay meeting. I just didn't think the OP should feel pressured into getting one.
