On Match I get first emails from guys that say "email me back at someotheremail.com" implying not to return their email on Match.

Hi,

No not necessarily, it may just be for more practical reasons, He might have an easier access to the other email he gave you. I believe many people, in online dating have other email address to be able to communicate with people they “meet” without having to log on to the dating site itself. That being said, I am not all that familiar with the way Match.com works, therefore, another poster might be more able to inform you.

Hope it helps a little

Do they post that in their subject line or in the email text?

Actually, non paying members on Match can neither send nor read emails on the site.

I have found that a lot of guys do that. I don't know why.

Match can be set up so that any e-mail which is sent to your match e-mail account will automatically be forwarded to you regular e-mail address. But the sender's e-mail address stays as the match e-mail address. This way you would remain anonymous to the receiver. I hope that makes sense.

Let's see if I can make an example:

4 accounts: matchYou, homeYou, matchHim, homeHim

matchYou -> matchHim (both are anonymous accounts)
matchYou -> matchHim w/auto-forwarding -> homeHim (you are still anonymous, so is he and the e-mail goes to his home address
homeYou -> homeHim (neither are anonymous)

and (obviously) the same is true in reverse

And if I remember correctly, if you automatically forward your match e-mails to home, then when you respond, it will go back through match to his match e-mail and be forwarded if he has his account set up to forward.

Yes, Match has automatic, anonymous forwarding. I've used it. But one thing I find is that when I write e-mail from my own account and forward through match occasionally the forwarded message arrives empty at the destination. So I read messages in my own e-mail box, but to reply I log in to match.

I had one guy ask me to email outside of match because he was about to cancel his account.
