>>Do you think that some men find intelligent women a bit intimidating and enough so to stay away?<<
I think most of the time a woman says this, she's actually looking for an excuse other than her being a bit on the witchy side.
That said, sure, there's probably plenty of guys who're intimidated by smart women. The good news for the smart women is that they tend to be the stupid guys, and they wouldn't have been a good match for them anyway.
But I have to say that most of the time, when I've heard a woman say that she has trouble with guys and it's because she's smart/intelligent, I've thought to myself "no, the reason you have trouble with guys is because you're an obnoxious pain in the butt."
As an intelligent-but-obnoxious guy myself, I have to say that once I took a hard look at myself and realized the obnoxious parts, things really improved. :)
There's so many reasons why people don't match up- some guys are intimidated by great-looking women, some women don't like slobby guys, etc etc etc.
It's far better to work on truly recognizing our own weaknesses and working on THEM, while playing to our strengths.
Saying "well, he/she is intimidated by me because I'm smart" has nothing to do with our OWN weakness, and instead is about someone else's weakness (their inability to be around someone who's intelligent).
Worrying about others' weaknesses will get us nowhere, because we can't change those other people, as much as we might wish we could.
When I hear a woman say she didn't get a guy because she was "too smart" I bristle. It sounds very like a guy saying he couldn't get a woman because he didn't look like... or that he didn't have a hot car, or whatever. This statement blames someone on a shortcoming, and not on the simple fact that the interest level was too low.
Furthermore, I am a smart person with occasional flashes of brilliance. But my company is bearable, I think, because that's not all I am and I let people know that, too.
I have watched a few smart women working it with a new guy, and I have to say a couple of them were completely boring. All big words and no sexiness.
