On some dating sites there are different categories. One dating site has categories that go - Hanging Out, Friends, Dating, Long Term, etc.

What does 'Hanging Out' mean? Does 'Hanging Out' mean no strings attached/casual?
And what does 'Friends' mean?

Most people, especially guys don't join dating sites just to literally 'hang out', right?

LOL - yeah, I do think that some dating sites have "friend" options. Or you'll see those people that say "friends first" (yeah whatever, so what are you doing on a DATING site). But IMO these mean:

Hanging Out - one of two things 1) an activities partner to just literally "hang out" with or 2) a hook up partner to "hang out" with

Friends - one of three things 1) a friends first situation that could develop into more or not 2) an incessant pen pal and emailer 3) a FWB where you go to his house, watch TV and then have sex

Dating - one of two things 1) someone to date for ever without ever making a true commitment 2) a FWB situation and you actually go on DATES instead of hanging out at his house watching movies before you have sex

Long Term - you HOPE this means what it sounds like it means, but who knows??

Its so funny. My profile states that I'm looking for Long Term. However, guys looking to Hang Out still contact me hoping they can go by their looks alone. But wow, was the last guy ever hot! I had to refuse his 'offer'. hahah!

Lol I liked reading your definitions. They were so funny because this is so very true in the online dating world! I believe this hanging out/friends/casual thing is a guy's way of saying that he'll take what he can get if he doesn't meet someone worthy of having a serious relationship with.
