Text Message vs. Voice Mail

A guy that I met on match last week and I have been emailing. So he asks for my phone number so we can talk. Well yesterday he leaves me text messages while I'm at work and last night he left me another text message. WHY CAN'T HE LEAVE A VOICE MESSAGE!?!!?? I wonder if he sounds like Mickey Mouse or something!? LOL (and it turns out that I'm charged for text messages - it's not in my plan). What do I do??

p.s. if you're wondering why I didn't answer it's because I can't use my phone at work and it was turned off recharging last night.

I would never use text messaging as a replacement for a phone call. I actually rarely even use text messaging

I know this will make me sound elderly, but I don't even know HOW to use text messaging. I would tell him via some other normal communication means that you'd rather not communicate that way.

I would email him and say something like, "thanks for your text messages. Unfortunately, text messaging is not included in my cell phone plan, so I'd appreciate it if you would leave a voicemail instead the next time you call. Thanks for your understanding! Tonight at X PM would be a good time to reach me, btw."

I treat text messages as I do IM--completely ignore them....if someone wants to talk to me and has the time to type in all those letters, he/she has the time to dial my digits and actually talk.

But, if you really want to talk to the guy, I'd send an e-mail or voicemail saying that if he wants to talk to give you a call...

>>What do I do?<<

What Sheri said. If you don't want him to leave you text messages, just tell him that.

Then sign me up for AARP too, sposa, because I'm hopeless at it. The only text messages I've gotten were from OLD guys (my friends know I'm clueless). It took me forever to type a 4-word message back. And now I just found out that IM isn't included in a lot of plans, both sending and receiving. I had no idea. Not sure about mine. Guess I'll find out.

What Sheri said. And if you meet him and don't like him, ask him to cough up the money you had to pay for the texting.

okay now I think I'm getting mad. I emailed him and told him that text messaging was not in my plan and that I'm being charged. He emailed back and apologized. Then last night we were IMing and we agreed to talk on the phone tonight at 5. Well, this morning there is a text message on my phone saying "good morning sunshine, have a great day". Which is all nice and sweet BUT I think I'm going to tell him goodbye. I told him not to text me!! What would you guys do?? (I'm really not that into him to begin with, he lives over an hour away).
