Hi SP,

I would see if the other party's insurance will pick up the extended car rental for you--does not hurt to ask, after all, it is an inconvenience to you. I have a Honda Civic EX, and love it, great mileage and my little Hot Wheel, with ground effects, and spoiler on the back, midnight sparkle black. When I was deciding ona car, I looked to see what cars were on the road--Older ones--ie, what lasts--and hands down, it was Toyota and Honda. Chose the Honda due to great price and also a little better warranty. It was also more my 'style'; I TOO am built low to the ground, and for fun and speed--lol~!

SO glad you are fine per the accident, and that, in All areas, you are moving on to bigger and Better!

Truly,
Cupcake

Hi SP-

I've been MIA for a few months now. I was sorry to read about your accident and your breakup. But it sounds like you are healing both physically and emotionally very well.

I thought I'd throw my 2cents in here. My ex and I had a convertible Toyota Solara. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the car. It drives very very smooth. It's much quieter than the Mustang and the V6 has quite a bit of pick up. Remember the Toyota and Lexus on built on the same platforms, so the Toyota is going to be more of the "luxury" ride while the Mustang is going to be more of the "muscle" car. Also, everytime I was out driving around by myself- I got lots of comments from admiring men. Oddly, I still miss the car but not the boyfriend. ;)

So my vote is the Toyota. Stay away from the black leather though. Come summer time, it HURTS to sit on the leather if you've let the top open in the sun.

Have fun in Maui!! I'm going in August after the Bar. I can't wait!!

sp-
please email me your questions re: insurance =- I have been in the industry for many years and can help you (claims).. If this was not your fault and the other party has insurance you should be going after their company for rental. but i would need more details so I can advise correctly.

as far as the mustang. I wanted one once, and test drove it and thought it was too rough to handle for me.. nice car and all but it's very rough. i can't picture the toyota convertible right now.. but it may be a better fit for ya!

I'm a Mustang snob.

Nothing made post-1969 (or even arguably 1968) is worth driving.

Hey - quick nosey question - WHAT insurance company do you use? There's no way mine would pay for a luxury car rental. Even my friend T, when she got t-boned, didn't get a luxory rental, and she was driving her Lexus when she got hit.

I’m with State Farm but the gal that hit me is with 20th Century and I just spoke to them today and they will pay the 47 dollars a day for the Mustang.

Hi SP,

I haven't read through all your posts. But I wanted to give you my opinion on it. HOpe it helps.

If I were to do my car all over again, I would have done it differently. I did have a Toyota Camry and only owed 5K on it when I traded it in for my beautiful 2001 Volvo Convertible. Yes, I do love my convertible! However, if I did it all over again, I would have stuck with another toyota because of maintenance. I never had any problems with my Camry and have constant problems with the convertible. The new Solora's are nice and not as large as they were a year ago. They are a cute car. Do test drive the convertible for a long period of time and see how you like it first. See if the dealer has any demo cars that perhaps you can keep over night. The Volvo dealership would give me these kinds of cars when my car was in the shop.

Some things to keep in mind with a convertible: they make a lot of noise when the top is up, go through some tunnels see if the sound doesn't bother you. On those long drives it would drive me crazy. Also, when I close my door, I also have to roll down my window and roll it back up to make a tight seal, otherwise it is really noisy and if it is raining the water will come in. Check to see if the drive is a smooth drive. After I started driving my car for awhile, I realized the drive was not as smooth as my old car. It was due to those overly priced high performance tires (which also pop when anything hits them). The only other thing I can think of right now is the top...is it power or manual? If it is power, check to see how much that usually runs to have it fixed. Mine was covered under the warranty, but just in case it expires right before you have a problem find out first.

Another thing to consider is that if you are leasing, pretend to be purchasing a car first to work the price down as much as you can. That should be the price you work with when you negotiate your lease. I have always had to purchase my car from a lease because of my excess milage, so the residue really mattered to me.

Also, remember, you are driving the convertible you have now during spring time. Spring and fall are the best times for a convertible. During the summer I usually have the top up because it gets too hot. Or the seats get to hot and then you have to sit on them...ouch!

I do love my car, but I also wish I had another car that is a little more practical and not as expensive. I could use the money elsewhere right now. I didn't want to be a downer, I just know how I am and if I am making a large purchase like that, I can easily get carried away. Of course, then it takes me 25 minutes to decide what kind of boxed macoroni and cheese I want to buy. Go figure!

As for insurance and rental cars, when I was in a minor accident, person in front of me was on the phone and decided to put their car into reverse, the insurance company was going to give me a ford focus. I threw a fit. My car was only a couple of months old and I was making a rather large payment. I did tell them that had I wanted a car like that I would be paying a lot less per month. I told them I wanted a car that was similar to my car. No, it wasn't a convertible. It was a lower end Volvo, but it was atleast a Vovlo. It is a very sturdy car. It doesn't feel like you are driving a tin can. That was the reason I purchased it...I needed to protect my precious baby girl. Keep throwing that fit to keep the car rental. I didn't even have to pay my deductible. It wasn't my fault. I refused to put up the money. It was all taken care of.

Best of luck, SP
