I finally succumbed and paid for a one month subscription. I found that in the last two and a half months I'd received 91 messages. Those include emails, winks and missed IMs.

A lot of them were from

Hmmm....I'm sorry your mailbox wasn't full of anything exciting. But think of it this way, now that you are a paying member you can initiate IMs and emails. Ok, ok, I know that's not such a great consolation- but I thought I'd try and throw a positive spin on it.

In regards to the guy who responded to your wink with what about him intrigued you. I had to laugh. I've sent that same email myself. That is my own personal least favorite tease. My thinking is if you are so intrigued, pay the $35 bucks to send me an email. LOL. But I understand why people use it, it's also the least cheesiest tease too. Now that you've paid the $, why not respond and tell him what you found intriguing?

I had the same thing happen with an eharmony guy this morning. He has selected "view my photos after must have/can't stands". Well I looked him up on jdate. Yikes. While I generally agree with the eharmony premise about getting to know someone from the inside out, this guy was NOT NOT NOT at all what I find attractive. But hey, at least you didn't also pay $50 to eharmony too.

Pianoguy:

Membership fees are outrageous compared to other sites, so I'm sure it contributes quite a bit to their advertising budget.

I personally don't think their success rate is that much higher than any of the other big sites.

I've actually gotten quite a few matches and I'd say maybe 2/3rds are looking for something more than just sex. Which I've found to be better than match or yahoo. But out of the 20 or so matches I've gotten in the last 2 weeks, only 3 peeked my interest initially and they all kind of fizzled. I've personally never met IRL with an eharmony match.

But that's just my experience.

Oh and No I don't think Dr. Warren will ever admit that, but I don't think match will every advertise as a booty call website either. ;)

Hi PianoG,

Well, I am always hearing these "stories" about marriages, etc. from eHarmony--but...they seem to be Urban Myths--lol! When I ask Who they are, it is always a vague: "ummmm...well, this is the cousin of a guy who works at the gas station's next door neighbor's, doctor's brother....I thiiiink...". I have two good friends who have paid and are Very disappointed in it. Both say that based on the syntax and vocabulary, they feel the majority of the people they are getting as 'matches' are not that intelligent, etc. Granted, some people do not communicate well when writing, but....

Also, they do Not like not seeing a photo up front. One girl finally made contact with a guy, but he vaporized...all in all, it is 0 for 0, as I hear it! I do not have money to waste, so I feel my money is best spent on Match. I wish at times I could join more sites, but, then hearing how people Do join to get a contact, and are not happy with the outcome.....I think I'll take Search and Destroy (my teen sons) out for pizza, instead! :)

Pianoguy thinks PIZZA with your sons is a great alternative.

PianoGuy,

Eharmony does have outrageous prices but you can do a search on the internet for coupon codes. I ended up paying $50 for three months instead of just one month! I guess I've been lucky on eharmony, I have only been on it about two weeks and am already talking with three nice good looking guys. I haven't online dated before but my family kept dropping hints about the commercials so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm not banking too much on the hype but it does seem that with paying more for the service you get people who aren't just looking for a roll in the hay. Guess we will see how it works out.

HI VW,

I do hope eHarmony works for you. But,I am not sure about your concept that if people pay More for it,then they will be looking for more than a 'roll in the hay' (which is actually really itchy! lol), than the other dating sites. If that were true, then the infomercial about the diet pill that "Must Be" worth the outrageous $114.00 it costs, Because it is more expensive, would be True as well, and...it is not. None of those do the work for losing weight, You have to!

Not at all 'dissing on that service or your positive outlook, just think that we All need to keep in mind the "nature of the beast" of OLD...Sometimes it Rules, Sometimes it Drools!

Best of luck to you there and anywhere you pursue happiness!

Truly,
Cupcake
