I met a gal who was 45 years old. Our first meet (date) went very well with some good conversation.

On the second date, we went out for dinner.

She had two late-teenage daughters that she was very close with. In fact, she spent a lot of time with them.

After a few drinks, she began talking with the same slang that a teenage girl might use as in 'I was like, no way, o my god cuz... like....'

:(

It was... like... annoying...

-Doesn't look like his photo. Even if he's still attractive, I'm a little put off if it's obvious that the photo online is a really old one.
- Overdoes the cologne/aftershave
- Doesn't offer to buy my coffee.
- Keeps looking at everything but me.
- Probes too deeply about past dating experiences.
- Gets into heavy topics. I like to keep first meets light and casual.
- Doesn't smile.
- Doesn't hold the door open.

None of these are necessarily dealbreakers - just turn offs.

Hi Hallmark,

You had me laughing when you explained about the intenseness as you engineer friend explained antennas for 20 minutes of your meet! The last few dates and the guy I was with the first part of this year (up until a month ago) were all engineers and I am just so turned off by their intenseness when they talk about or do something. Granted some things can be nice done with intenseness, but not everything!!!

I try not to categorize these guys, but we have alot of them in Michigan also. They are so specific in everything they do - at least the ones I have met - seems hard for them to be spontaneous at all... JMO... Although Cupcake found herself a different type of Engineer! ;)

I know I'm veering off the topic. Sorry! (Any way to write private emails?) I'm Asian and tend to date mostly Asian guys. When these guys are Asian AND engineers...boy oh boy, what a combination!

BTW, I'm from Michigan and grew up in the U.P. Can you believe that? I went to school in Ann Arbor. I know what engineers are like in Ann Arbor. =)

Have a great evening!

Things that turn me off on a first meet:

- Tardiness

- Not having good table manners (pushing food onto their fork with their fingers, not using their napkin, etc.)

- Constantly checking out other ladies around us

- Not bothering to clean up a little before arriving for the meet from work

- When they tell you about exes and explicit details of why they split up and what they hated about their ex (issues still pending!!!!!!!!!)

- Drinking too much and trying to get you to drink more than you want to

- Trying to get you to come to a Swinger's club with them at the end of dinner (he seemed ok up until that point and totally threw me! Couldn't wait to leave!)

- When they try to get personal info out of you like exactly where you live, etc.

- Players!!!!!

Just the ones I can think of right now...

Sorry to hijack the thread some....

Hallmark, are you saying these Asian engineers are good or bad in your book?! ;) I think engineer's personalities just don't click with my personalitiy as I tend to plan things yet can roll with changes also and be spontaneous when needed. It's like they have such a hard time getting out of their self-imposed boxes!

How funny that you are from MI also! Well, we have alot of automotive plants in MI and they employ alot of engineers to keep things running smoothly! But there are so many different types of engineers also - that I have learned!
