What to do, what to do?

Today, I received a very nice email from a guy my age who *seems* to be normal (now there's a switch! LOL!) No obvious red flags in his profile either, except that there's no photo, but he promises to send one. The problem is that I am not a paying member of match (and haven't been for months), so I can't send a response through that route. He did include his personal email address, but they stripped it out of the message. Also included were his home and cell phone numbers.
I have a couple of options here......I can bite the bullet and pay for a month so I can send him a response, but we all know what will happen then. He'll be a big dud and I will have wasted $25.00. Or, I could call him, but that seems mighty awkward....I usually like to get to know the person a little first by exchanging a few emails before I pick up the phone.
What would you all do?
ABM

Text message - tell him to send a photo. Don't go within 3 states of him without a photo. I wouldn't call.
Call him. What's to lose? He went all out with his contact numbers!
I'm so excited for you! Go, go, go!
If he had a photo posted I'd definitely advise calling. But he doesn't have one - so if you talk on the phone you'll end up with a "hard to get out of" situation if you end up not really liking his looks once he does send a photo. .
Are there any other prospects that might make it worthwhile to sign up for membership? That way if he doesn't pan out at least you can try other possiblities and it won't be a total waste.
Or you can try KITB's suggestion and do the 3-day trial option.
I was going to suggest calling him, too, until JH's post about being in a hard-to-get-out-of situation if you end up not liking his looks.
Here's what I did. I thought of the 3 day promotion, but I used it a month or so ago, so I was ineligible. OK, Strike One. Believe it or not, I am a throwback from the early days of cellphones....it stays in the car, I rarely use it and it doesn't have text messaging (it doesn't even have voicemail). I guess I need to get with the times, eh? So, that option is out.
LG, you would be so proud of me, I'm a regular Sherlock Holmes. I had his home phone number, so I did a reverse lookup on anywho.com. That gave me his last name and address. Then I did a google search and BINGO!!! Guess what I found? Apparently, he had attended a birthday party for a friend or co-worker and someone posted pictures on the web!! I'm 99.9% sure it's him because his name is unusual and the restaurant named is local. So I got to see his photo and he's decent looking.
That being said, I just bit the bullet, signed up for one month and sent him an email through match tonight. I really felt awkward calling the guy out of the blue, so this worked for me. I don't know if there are any other prospects but I will check, to get my money's worth.
FYI, you can text message people off the web.
I'm sure there is a universal online text message sender - but I couldn't find it fast. Here is a shortcut.
1. Find his area code and exchange here - http://www.areacodedownload.com/
That will tell you his carrier.
2. Go to the carrier's site and you can text him free and anonymously
The problem with paying to contact one person is they nearly always 100% disappear. I'm sure exception exist but it seems more often than not they are gone.
