what you gonna do when they come for you

First, an update on my normal date. We've met twice and will be meeting next week for a 3rd date. She's normal in all respects and I've followed all the sensible rules and it feels nice that on-line dating has worked in this respect. That's all I'll say about her because I don't want to jinx it.

But last Friday, I had an experience with a gal on match that was most unusual. Here's how it unfolded. It's 6:30pm and I'm tired from work. I have no plans except to watch TV, surf the net, have a few beers and hit the sack for a trip to San Antonio the next day for a date. I sign onto match about 7pm and notice a wink. I look at her photo (she was cute but her profile was really basic) and notice she lives close to me. I e-mail her back and within one hour I get her response with an IM address on yahoo. Throwing caution to the wind, I IM her about 8pm and we chat for about 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes are uneventful but here's what happens next.

Her: "Hopefully I won't startle you, but we've met before."
Me: "Really, where? I don't recognize your photo and I'm really curious."
Her: "Well I will say it wasn't under the best of circumstances."
Me: "? Well, curiosity killed the cat. Could you give me a hint?"
Her: "I would prefer to meet you in person and tell you." (RED FLAG #1)
Me: "Well, wouldn't you prefer to talk on the phone first before we just go out and meet? After all we don't know each other and I would feel more comfortable doing that."
Her: "I have unusual work hours so tonight would probably be the only free time I have for at least a week."

Now I'm thinking this is strange. Perhaps it's a robbery attempt? This just had danger written all over it. How many gals want to meet this soon? And to add to the problem, I was over half way through my 6 pack and I didn't want to go anywhere since the cutoff in TX is .08. I was probably at .06 at this time. So I went back into chat and it gets even more strange....

Her: "You're the John at 18001 *&*&%*& Cove aren't you?" (RED FLAG #2)
Me: "How do you know my address?
Her: " I always check my dates out before I go on them."
Me: "I see."
Her: "Why don't you pick a place and we can meet in about an hour?"

The beer is having an effect on me and I decide to give it a try. I'm curious as to how she knows me and we can meet at the big nightclub up the street. What do I have to lose?

Me: "Ok. We'll meet at Grahams at 9:45pm."
Her: "I would prefer we meet at a neutral place and take one car. Perhaps you can pick me up at Albertsons?"
Me: "So you are going to get in a car with a guy you don't know?"
Her: "I think I can hold my own...." (FLAG of ALL FLAGS #3)

We signed off and I began to get cold feet. Was this a robbery attempt? This was totally bizarre but the beer enhanced my boldness to meet anyway. I got to Albertsons and she called me at the meeting time on my cell and told me she forgot she didn't have her car with her. (?) I would meet her at a pool parking lot down the street. I pulled into the parking lot and after 60 seconds she approached my car. She approached alone but I had my foot on the gas just in case. She got in my car and she was very, very attractive. We small-talked for about two minutes and then I asked where we had met before. Here's the surprise guys.....

Her: "I just wanted to tell you I am a *%*&*& police officer.

At that instant my eyes resembled a "deer in the headlight". I felt like my dad had caught me in his wallet when I was a kid.

Me: "I guess I'm busted. Is this some kind of sting? I don't have any warrants :0(
Her: "Excuse me" I'm off duty and my ex has the car. I didn't want to show up at the club in my cruiser."
Me: "oh god, you had me startled there for a moment"
Her: "I met you at your house when I arrested your roommates husband for domestic abuse in January. I look a little different out of uniform. By the way have you been drinking tonight?"

Lizzie,

After the initial conversation in the car, I was planning on taking her to the big club for a few drinks and conversation. But as we drove to the club, she mentioned she really didn't want to go there and when I suggested another smaller club, she agreed. But I could sense she was either really shy or she didn't feel comfortable and when we arrived at the smaller club, she told me she really needed to head home since she had to wake up at 5am for her job. At this point I was frustrated but of course I honored her wishes and the date actually ended up with a hug at the front door and that was it. I did correspond for a few days after that but she has since ghosted. Not that I even consider the experience a date since we really never left the car. :-)

Man, oh man you sure have some bizarre experiences. I'm thinking you must live in a small town if you can actually find people online that know you in real life...

Yikes!!!
