What's the deal with Match.com?

After about a month break, I decided to repost my profile on Match. My subscription ran out, but I was thinking of signing up again in January... until now.

Yesterday I got an email from match "Someone emailed you!" Why is it that now non-subscibers cannot see WHO emailed them, nor the message? Why would I want to subscribe if, maybe half, cannot read or even see that I was the one who emailed them?

It is a pathetic ploy to get everyone to pay to use the service. But in reality, it seems to me like it will drive people away. What is the incentive to sign up if you don't have any idea who emailed you? I would think there would be more incentive if someone you're interested in emails you... you'd sign up so you can reply. I hope this is a test on their part and they go back to the old way.

I took my profile down. Does anyone else think their new thing is dumb?

i totally think its stupid. because if you email someone how are you supposed to know if they can see it or not. it is a stupid ploy to get people to pay.

My match subscription runs out at the end of the month and I'm fairly certain that I will not re-subscribe. Being a current subscriber, I'm not familiar with that feature. I'm pretty much over match right now anyway so that sleazy tactic doesn't surprise me. It only makes me more certain that I'm done with them.

I am really glad I read this post. I just reposted my match profile yesterday after several months. I had no idea they were doing this - now I know I won't subscribe.

With all the trouble they are in, you'd think they would try to make the service even more above board - not less so.

Wow, I didn't know they just started this...

I e-mailed a guy about 3 weeks ago, and hid my e-mail address in it, and he wasn't a paying member, but the censors didn't block it out, so he was able to e-mail me at my Yahoo address. This is probably why they're starting it this way, b/c people have figured out how to get around the system, and not as many people are paying for it, but I agree that it's stupid. I mean, I get tons of e-mails, but 99.8% of them, I have no desire to respond to, and there's no way I would have bought a membership just to find out who they were. I want to see the person that's contacted me before I drop that much cash!

OMG! I couldn't agree more! The responses that my profile has attracted over the past 4 months is EXACTLY why I'm canceling my subscription when it expires at the end of the year. If I'd joined up based on contact from any one of those guys without seeing a profile first I'd be even more disgusted than I already am with match, if that's even possible;-P

YES! I definitely think it is dumb. You used to at least be able to view the emails that someone sent without being a member, you just couldn't respond. Once or twice I have paid up when the email/profile seemed interesting enough (of course they wound up ghosting!) but I think I am going to complain to Match about this hooey and even possibly take my whole profile down over this. It's ridiculous and I've never had much luck with them anyway.
