What's wrong with my profile?

I've asked several people I know, and everyone says they love it, but apparently they're biased because I'm not really getting many hits. Critique me, please.

I lead a very uncomplicated life, but I'm far from a wallflower. I'm looking for someone that will complement that, but also introduce me to new and exciting things. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we can have lunch at a hole-in-the-wall little Venezuelan restaurant downtown, find a hidden treasure at a flea market or garage sale, grab a cowboy hat and a lawn seat at an outdoor concert, take an iceskating lesson at the local rink, or walk around the Village with a cream puff in hand, admiring the architecture. That evening, we can sit around the BBQ pit with a beer and a margarita and a friend strumming away on his guitar, find a prime middle spot at the drive-in theater, or take a twilight canoe ride. I'm very easy to get along with!

Randomness about me: I once almost got thrown in a mexican jail. I think circuses, zoos, and parades are kind of creepy. I suck at painting. I make great chicken enchiladas. How I Met Your Mother is one of my favorite TV shows, and I think I'm a great compilation of all the characters.

I'm a small town girl with a curious nature and a bit of a devil on one shoulder ;-) I'm very independent, but also soft and sweet and I've been told that communication is one of my strong suits. I believe that falling in love is a feeling, but staying in love is a choice. I would love to be Somebody's Someone, and I really do think Somebody's out there, so come find me! I'm a little goofy on the surface sometimes, but there's so much more to me underneath that I'd love to have the opportunity to show someone that's intrigued enough to want to see. I'm a writer, a thinker, a lover, and a dreamer...

I'm looking for a guy who can think outside the box. Someone outgoing, creative, and strong-hearted. Someone who has more than meets the eye. Sports and TV are great, but I'd love to meet someone that can make hours of conversation about LIFE go by in a blink. My family doesn't live here, so I'd love to find someone that has a great and welcoming circle of friends and family. I'm looking for someone who is emotionally available to be in and is wanting to be in a relationship, but not with "just anybody". I'm not Just Anybody, and I don't want you to be, either.

for fun:

In the summer I love to just be outside doing anything (barefoot, of course). In the winter I'm a Netflix-&-cuddle-on-the-couch junkie. I like to go bowling, play mini-golf, & just generally be kinda goofy with someone who appreciates my goofiness.

my job:

After 5 years in the travel industry, I now work in Property Management, but my 5 year plan is to own my own small business.

my ethnicity:

I check the white girl box on standardized tests :::shrugs::: I do have a tiny bit of Native American in there somewhere, which is a tiny bit cool.

my religion:

I have faith, it's just a little...unorganized ;-) I go to church occasionally, and broaden my spiritual horizons at a contemporary service that lets me in the door in jeans.

my education:

I have a degree in xxxxx, from xxxxx University, and worked in a travel agency for 5 years.

favorite hot spots:

I've always wanted to do a Southwest trip, I love cruises, beaches, and Key West is one of my favorite places. Naturally, Cheeseburger in Paradise is a cool place for dinner. Are you seeing a trend yet?

favorite things:

sleeping in, thunderstorms, cooking together, Scene It/Trivial Pursuit, outdoor concerts, cherry Icees, country music, thriller movies, college hockey, Dave& Buster's skeeball, backyard BBQs, iceskating, Sunday Open Houses, Mexican food...

last read:

"24 characters remaining", if you mean literally ;-) I just bought a house, so my coffee table is piled high with useful How-To books. I'm also reading Stumbling On Happiness by Daniel Gilbert and a James Patterson novel.

You sound like fun to me...but I'm a literate, thoughtful person and even I didn't have the patience to read all that word for word. Which means to me that no man would read it all either.

Way too long. Cut it by half.

The important question is, do you have a cute picture?

As I guy, I look at photos first then read the profile. Interests that match are a quick way of screening after looking at the photo.

Recent ones that are not studio portrait ones are good. Full body photos that show are good too. No pictures of your pets, children, grandchildren or scenes of your vacations unless you are in them as well. Photos of you doing your activities are even better.

Unfortunately OLD sites are like catalog shopping. People skim through them looking at the photos to see what catches their eye. Check the physical stats and interests (maybe) and then contact them.

BTW I do like your profile.

Way too lengthy and full of cliches such as "think outside the box" and "devil

"Devil on one shoulder" means that I'm not one of those boring "Hi, I'm a teacher, and I love to read, and shop, and play with my dog" kind of girls. It means that I have a little bit of pizazz, and a bit of a wild side.

I have 6 or 8 pictures, I think. One is a full body shot of me and my parents' dog, one is of me on a beach vacation, one is an art-y profile pic, and the rest are just candid face shots with friends and family cropped out.

You really think that 4 paragraphs is too long? (Remember, it's on match.com, where you have to fill in all those "for fun" "education" sections separately). Actually, most guys in my area, believe it or not, post profiles that are long, too. Here's one, for example:

Who I am and what I'm looking for...hmm. Well, I'm male and I'm 26, but that was probably made obvious already. I've been in this city for getting on three years, and have spent the majority of my time to this point working (research, coursework, and teaching). I'm a relatively laid back personality. Socially, I'd say that I'm more the sit back-observe-and-laugh type, so if you're looking for the loud and proud or life of the party, I'm probably not your guy.

I do my best to stay mentally, physically, and spiritually active, and feel that all three are important in life. At this point, work and school take care of the mental part without any problem. Physically, I like to run quite a bit, although I'm not one to stick to any sort of schedule or program. I used to race more than I do now, but may be tackling a half marathon in the next month or so. Actually, my favorite part of the day - assuming I can get myself to roll out of bed - is a 4 or 5 am run when there's no traffic and all the "sane" people are still asleep. When it happens, it's great, and when it doesn't...well, a couple hours of extra sleep are pretty nice too. I also try to do the typical gym stuff, at this point usually three or so days a week. Regarding the spiritual thing, my faith is a vital component of my life, and it's something that I'd be happy to share if you're interested. Since I moved here, I've been searching for a new church home and have moved around mostly among community/nondenominational churches, although I grew up a member of a United Methodist church.

I realized that I really hadn't included much about the girl I'm looking for, so here it is. In terms of personality, I am interested in someone inherently kind and compassionate, and who appreciates the same in a man. I like the sweet, generally optimistic type (generally...we all have bad days every once in a while). I find it more difficult to say what I'm looking for physically. The attraction is either there or it isn't.

Beyond that, I love (and study) nature, so I'm just about always game for a hike or a camping trip, I'm learning to tolerate this city thanks in part to its abundance of slow pitch softball leagues (if you wanna play, just let me know), and I'm looking for a girl who hopefully shares some of those same interests.

I agree with the other person's post......it's too long and too wordy.
