When to meet up

Alright...well I'm new to online dating. I joined a BBW dating site & met this really great guy. We have been e-mailing for about a week now and I'm unsure when to stop e-mailing and see if he's interested in talking on the phone & then meeting up. Is there a general time frame that people would consider appropriate? Should I wait & see if he initates it (I'm very shy so initating things is hard for me)? I guess is there a general consensus on how meeting or phone converstaions should happen? Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the board and to the "wonderful" world of OLD (online dating)!

Ok...first things first ;-)...you have NO IDEA if this guy is "really great"...unfortunately there is a LOT of deception online and you won't know how "great" he is until you've met hm and spent a fair amount of time together in person.

SO...the point of OLD is to meet people to dat in person, right? Unless you want an "endless emailer" pen pal (and there are lots of guys like this online), you want to move to the phone and then to set up a first meet for coffee ASAP.

If he doesn't suggest calling you in the next couple emails, I would send him one saying something like, "I really do better getting to know people in person rather than by email. Here's my number ; why don't you give me a call so we can figure out if it makes sense to meet for coffee?"

Good luck...but don't count on something coming of this. Email other people as well...it's VERY common for people to "ghost" (disappear without a trace) during the initial email phase.

Hi there, I'm sort of new to OLD as well (been on it for about 1.5 months). I agree with Sheri, you will find that you'll be emailing and chatting and meeting up with a number of guys at the same time. Don't feel guilty because you're only dating and most likely, they're doing the same thing too. Just have fun and be yourself! Good luck!
