When's a joke not a joke?

If a guy jokingly made a reference to a booty call and if you were up looking for one b/c he got a message at 3am, would you think that's all he was out for or would you just take it as a joke? Mind you, this is a guy I met online and have met in person as well.

Hmm, that's an odd one. I would think it would depend on how well I knew him. But I think early on, I would find that a little offensive. I'd probably let it slide because I imagine he DID mean it as a joke (what the heck were you calling him for at 3 am anyway!? ;-)) but I would keep it in my mind as a potential red flag.

I'm confused by your message. Are you saying you left him a message at 3 AM or he left you one?

I left him an IM message which he didn't get until 3am... but I had left it around 10pm. He thought otherwise.

Gotcha. OK. Well, I still think my response still stands but does he not believe you that you sent it at 10? It should have a time stamp on it! IMO, that's more annoying than the joke about the booty call. I hate it when people don't believe me when I am telling the truth and keep ribbing me about it (even jokingly).

Could go either way (joke/booty call), depending on how well you know the guy!

I think it really depends on the guy. I have a friend who is the exact same way - he'll get a voicemail from me late and night and call back and ask if this means he finally has a shot. I tell him "not tonight" and we go on with our business.

So yeah, I think someone it really can be a joke, but sometimes it's a way of bringing sex into the equation. How many times have you met him?

He was probably mostly joking, but also interested in seeing how yu responded. I would probably say something like , "Don't you wish." if it was someone I knew. If he gets persistant about it, as if it's goal, I give him the heave ho.

Only met him once... he tells me to relax, that it's all jokes... o.O

I HATE when a man tells me to relax - usually there's a good reason I don't find his jokes funny if he tells me that. Like sex jokes on a first date.
