have you had the most luck with?

I've been on Yahoo & Match and I definitely feel that Match has been much more active...

I've done two OLD sites:

MATCH: http://www.match.com

I've been on Match for a year. During that time I met probably a dozen people. All were potentially good matches. About 40% - 50% seem to have enough mutual interest to progress to second dates. I am still a member though my profile is hidden since things have gotten busy recently.

Match is dominant if for no other reason than membership. Don't overlook the value of having an active and growing membership base. I'd say this dominance makes Match a must use for anyone entering the online dating arena. Just make damned sure you're profile is up to snuff before you join/pay -- because once you join as a member you'll have 1 to 2 weeks where you rotate highly in the search list. That means you'll be featured near the top of all results -- and gather many more winks and emails. If you have an older non-member profile and want to get serious on Match I'd recommend copying that into a new member(paying) profile and activating that account - since you'll get far more preferential treatment in the "rotation" of profiles.

Many of Match's features lag behind competitors. They don't have ANY meaningful personality matching tests, they just recently allowed you to see who has viewed you, they have no way of sorting searches by the distance the people are located away from you (?!).

If you're going to do online dating - I'd recommend spending several days reading all the messages on this board. Then read JHOOVERS FAQ (absolute must) which is accessible in her tagline -- there are tons and tons of great tips in there. Then get busy creating your profile!

PROS

  • Very large subscribed base in my area

  • Non-Members can read email

CONS

  • Lacks any personality testing/matching tools

  • Lacks the ability for non-members to send a free canned message
