I don't mind investing a little money in an OLD site (possibly for 3 months), and wondered if anyone had a better experience with one than another.

I did try eHarmony 2 years ago and only for a month. I did date one match for about 4 months and then I met someone the usual way. Didn't work out. I

I was on many sites, some that cost money, and some for free. I didn't think the ones that cost money were any better than the free ones. The best free one is Plenty of Fish. They have a large pool of men, and post activities for group get-togethers. Just remember that when men post that they want a long term relationship, it's not always true. I found that some men misrepresent themselves, so don't jump into something quickly until they prove themselves to be who they say they are.

Besides OLD, you might want to go to the website Meetups.com

You choose activities that you like in your local area, and they will tell you what groups are in your area. Some groups are open to everyone. Some groups are specifically for singles. The have every activity imaginable--outdoors groups that meet for kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, etc. Meeting for coffee or the movies, dancing, creative writing, going to festivals, etc. I attended a few things, and met some interesting people.

I met my signifcant other of seven months and going strong on Yahoo, but I think it was just luck that he and I were on there at the same time, and that's it's no better than any other site. You can't put all your eggs in one basket. Keep trying different things. Take care!

Thanks for taking the time to write back to me with feedback. More food for thought.

I have looked at Meetup for running groups, as that is my primary activity and it's always women. Never many men. Now if men

If you want to stay in your geographical area to meet men then I find it is meaningless to recommend a specific website for the makeup of the people vary according to the location.

You can go into the nuances of the function or the cost of the websites but ultimately you want to meet a number of quality people to date.

Actually there are 103 men for every 100 women in this world (which I thought was the other way around).
