Why make "Searches", they don't work?

You know on most OLD sites they let you pick your criteria that you want in a date? Well, it irks me that when I choose what race, height, etc. that I want, it still pulls up everybody under the sun!
For example, my primary search on Yahoo Personals is for a nonsmoking Caucasian male, 5'9" to 6'4". But more than 50% of the profiles it returns are for African Americans, smokers, or guys 5'8" or under!!
So what's the point of making a primary search if the search results don't match what you chose?
And while we're at it, it also irks me that Yahoo Personals tells you that you have 700 matched profiles, but when you start searching through them, hundreds of them are duplicated, so that there's maybe actually only 200 or so guys, and not the 700 they led you to believe!!

Did you make sure to check off which ones are "must haves"? Yahoo will use your choices more as a 'guide' than a 'filter', unless you check the must-have box.
The biggest annoyance for me, is I wish I could filter out those people who are not open to dating a single parent! which seems to be the majority of guys in my age range. I get SO sick of looking at dozens of profiles to try and find ONE that's okay with a match who has kid/s.
Try checking "must have criteria" (or something like that--I can't remember the exact wording) in your search parameters for the things that are most important to you. That's worked for me.
The duplicates are annoying though I agree, although I haven't found it affects the number of matches to the degree that you have found it does.

I so feel your pain. Yahoo! personals suck!!!! Please go with Match.com, I believe that there are more quality men who don't spend all their time sending out Ice Breakers because they are too cheap to purchase an account and also I have only met slime balls on Yahoo! Married men, sexual addicts, etc. Try Match, Perfect Match or eharmony, stay away from Yahoo! personals IMO. The searches on Match are a bit better but the matches they send me too aren't my matches!!!

IMO, it all depends where you live. Match in my area is not good. No one that is interested in a normal girl like me. They all want a blonde, botoxed, fake boobed, pretentious Dallas girl so are always looking for the BBD. Yahoo is OK, but not a lot better. I also don't like Match's policies so I am boycotting them.
But yes, as for the searches, unless you check the characteristic as a Must Have, then you will receive guys outside of that range. Even then, I think a few will slip through. The do warn you that if you put too many "Must Haves" that you will run the risk of not getting as many matches. So it's to each person to decide what you can and can't truly live without.

True, but I'd take
