would you date a guy like this?

Hi all.

I do not want to offend anybody on this board with this post, so please forgive me for what I'm about to write about and ask for advice.

There's this guy on POF who contacted me a couple of weeks ago. I read through his profile and the profile is filled with spelling mistakes, poor grammar, etc. I wrote back to him that we would not be a good match together.

He wrote back to me at a later time a longer email talking about his family and how he would come to NYC next month to see me. Again, the email was written kind of poorly, but you can get the idea what he's trying to say.

Just before, I was on this site and he wrote me another email, asking me why hasn't he heard from me; had I been busy lately?

He's cute looking, *supposedly* a firefighter (most of his photos has him in uniform), and he lives in Upstate NY (I'm in NYC). Under the section of the site where you list down your "smarts", he just has "N/A". If he was a firefighter, aren't you supposed to have at least some college education? Then again, he's from a small town in Upstate -- maybe they don't require it???

I'm thinking he may be mentally challenged or something. I'm not perfect either, but I get this fear that he may be a scammer? I could understand a few typos in his profile or emails, but it just reads like as though he's never gone to school.

Ok, I'm being lured by his good looks...I'm tempted to write back to him, but something else is telling me I better not and ignore his great looks.

What would you all do in this case?

I apologize if I offended anyone.

Of course you don't have to be a college grad to be a firefighter.

In many cases, firefighters aren't even paid...all you have to do is pass the training.

He doesn't sound like a scammer, he sounds like an ordinary guy who isn't your type.

Why are you feeling so guilty for asking for what you want? If he isn't articulate and that is important to you, so be it.

That certainly makes things simple.

Some people just type very fast & don't proofread before sending. Actually the only mistake he made was saying interesting instead of interested. Of course I didn't see the longer post. If he made a lot of mistakes it could be that he's foreign. But I just got a letter (at work) from an insurance company that had a couple of bad grammar mistakes and I know that person wasn't foreign. Also, being deaf would have no impact on how people learn to use written language would it?

It is how the English is put together and how good is the photo/ Ck out Romance scams (google that ) also go to A Hawaii model agencies web sight to see if you recognize him. If he asks for money you are 95% sure that it is a scam and report it to the FBI.
Many countries teach their brand of English, There are differences in grammar British VS American. The new scammers will take time to "know you" but they are usually linked to terrorist groups and are very dangerous.

Terrorist groups?

Now that is a stretch.

I believe he's a scammer all the same.

The part about being deaf is so you don't ask to phone him,

And then you really have to watch out if he says he has a Nigerian cousin who won the lottery & all they need is your bank account number. lol

not a strech. Read the state dept's Gorgeous people in trouble, or FBI, or Romance scam/fraud websites to get in better look at this.

I don't know if the guy you are talking to is a scammer, but be careful of course. A friend of mine is deaf and is very good looking. No one dated him because he is deaf. Sad but true my another friend of mine dated and married him and she was his first everything. He went to college but works as a landscaper. It was easier for him to do stuff with his hands. This maybe true for your fire fighter. Also My friend Matt does not do sign language he reads lips. Hope this helps :)

My sister is a firefighter and I asked her if they would ever hire a deaf person to fight fires. The answer was absolutely not as firefighters must be able to communicate over a radio and all firefighters must pass a hearing test. I'll bet it's not his picture either, and if you ever got close to meeting him, he'd have some excuse to cancel. Your guy is either not deaf or not a firefighter or both, and probably
