Would you go?

I got a reply to my profile saying "You're Invited."

The text went on to say that this gentleman (he's quite cute, if it matters...) and some of his friends would like to cut through the extended ordeal of online dating and to that end, have rented out a restaurant and are throwing a catered party on March 30. He's provided an RSVP contact and indicated that it's not necessarily a "meat market" but a way to meet lots of people at one time, possibly make some friends, etc. etc.

Interesting marketing approach. On one hand I think "great idea!!" On another, I see these guys picking and choosing women to invite and when I show up it's three of them surrounded by a bunch of supermodels (I would be the one who is NOT a supermodel) and cocktails full of Rufies.

What do YOU GUYS think?

I've received emails like this. I don't think that they're posted by people who are interested in online dating. I think they're spammers who are using the site to advertise their service. I don't know if the email you received implies in any way that there might be a cost involved if you choose

If you want to go to something like this - pick one that is formally organized and not just put together by some anonymous guys on the Internet.

It sounds a bit fishy. Personally, I might go but if there weren't roughly equal numbers of men and women there, I'd bail out immediately.

Also, if they say "it's free but we will accept contributions/donations to help defray the cost", it'd sound a lot more credible than if it's something they're charging for up front.

You can actually accomplish the same thing on your own if you simply throw a big party. Make it for single people only, and then spread the word through as many of your friends/co-workers/ex-dates as you possibly can. With any luck, you wind up with a nice big bash of people that you know or that friends of yours know, they're all single, and you get to meet some cool folks.
