WWYD?

New prospect - we've traded a few emails, and he's suggested we meet tomorrow.

What's stopping me, you ask?

Well, I just got a cold sore. And this sucker is huge.

So when/if I meet him, it's going to go like this:

Hi, "K", I'm "D" and this is my coldsore.

Or, in all reality, the coldsore may take over and do the introductions.

I haven't had one of these things in over 10 years. Figures one pops up now.

What to do?

Go to the doctor or get some of that Abreeva stuff and try to get rid of it while you stall for a little bit. Tell him that you have something going on tomorrow but next week would be dandy. First meets are hard enough without feeling self-conscious about a cold sore!

I did pick up the Abreeva - man, that crap is pricey - it had better work for the price!

He does know that my sister is coming in from out of state for the weekend - so even though we don't have specific plans for anything, that can be my out.

I get cold sores myself and have learned that in addition to the meds you can get now, ice really helps to take the fever out of it and usually will stop it from swelling if you catch it soon enough. Hold a cube wrapped in a papertowel on it, for as long as you can stand it. I reach for one anytime I feel one coming.

Good luck with the meet, whenever it happens!

Is it true zinc helps? I also picked up some zinc drops.

Good luck - hope the stuff works and that when you do meet him, he's a good guy. Sounds like a good excuse - legitimate and gets you off the hook for a while!

I've heard that it does, but have never tried it myself. If it does let me know.

I concur - reschedule for next week.

Abreva is the only topical treatment that REALLY works for me. I also dab a little tea tree oil on it - that seems to help dry it out - and I alternate the 2 several times a day until gone.

The ice cube trick really helps, the sooner the better. Sometimes I'll feel that tingle and the ice cube trick stops it before the sore develops.

The other good thing is Lysine supplements, I take 1000mg 3x/day when I have an active sore, and

I get occasional cold soars (once or twice a year) and take lysine to PREVENT them. Cold soars are a form of herpes as much as no one wants to admit it, it is.....and they have medicine called “valtrex” or something like it that makes it go away in 3 days. When you first feel it coming on you take it – works wonders. The downside is when you go to the pharmacy they probably assume you have genital herpes which sucks but trust me it’s worth it. I’ve had cold soars on and off before I ever kissed a boy so who knows how I got it but it sucks and would be a buzz kill to meet someone but trust me on the valetrex stuff – works miracles.

Thanks PM.

I'm hoping it'll be another 10 years before I have to deal with this again.

I feel sorry for people who get them regularly - and have major outbreaks.
