Why in the world does Yahoo let people without a profile message people who post profiles? I'm sorry, I don't want guys without a profile sending me instant messags. It's just annoying and doesn't let me filter out the crazies. Anyone else notice this?

You can adjust the settings so guys can only email you, not IM you.

I don't mind the IM's (in fact, it's sometimes easier than email) but I prefer they have a profile, you know?

This last guy IM'd me and said, "So what if I don't have a profile? Just ask me questions." Sorry, I prefer to do things a little more efficiently than that.

UH...you may not want to be too hasty! I felt the same way, but I received a email from some one through Yahoo Personals and he didn't have a profile. I almost deleted him but in a split second wrote back "I don't respond to guys w/o seeing a pic first".

For some reason we start exchanging emails, them IM's, then he sent over a pic. WOW! We've been together ever since, and now he's my husband.

It's not even the picture - I don't have one up - but there are certain criteria that I am looking for in a man. It seems rude to ask about them (especially education and religion) which is why I like knowing right off the bat. They get defensive when I ask for info on them. And I certainly don't like playing 20 questions!

I agree, I find this very annoying....and I'd say a majority of the guys who have contacted me this way (through IM when they don't have a profile up) are just looking for cybersex or something similar.

I had a guy send a message without a profile once. Turned out he was married, 300 lbs. and knew his sick, disabled wife would "understand" he just wanted comfort. Yeah, right. I wrote him I wasn't interested. He sent back something about women being closed-minded and thought I'd be different. Ah, well. I don't understand why someone wouldn't have a profile up either, unless they have something to hide.

When you say profile, are you saying "personals profile" or "yahoo member profile"?

If you are getting IM's or e-mails from guys who don't have "personals profiles", they are most likely finding you in the "yahoo members" directory.

You can edit your member profile to include/not include your e-mail address and even remove it from the directory if that is what you want.

I've been off yahoo personals for a while and don't remember what setting options are on there... so I am no help with that! :D

Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi folks. Along this line, does anyone know what affects the "active in the last 24 hours" or "active in the last week" line? Do you have to actually log into the personals for this to be updated? Or just into your Yahoo account?

You have to go onto the personals section of Yahoo while you're logged on in order for that to update. That's how it's possible for people's profiles to show "active in the last week" and "online now" at the same time. They are logged onto the Yahoo site, but haven't visited the personals page in a few days.
