An iVillage reporter interviewed four women dressed for a blind date about their styles. She then spoke to several men to learn their impressions. Did the women successfully project the images they intended? Watch this videoclip and find out!

HILARIOUS. What a bunch of fruit loops...

I don't know who was nuttier, Rachel, who LUVVVVVVS her dog Ricky so much she brings it on her dates, but thinks it's okay to wear a MINK bustier, or Alexandria, who thinks she looks "feminine" when she really just looks like a dominatrix....

NGOL's impressions:

First chick, the designer with the little dog: Complete flake. Dogs are cool/cute, but not on a first date, and certainly not if they're meeting in the bar pictured! Message she sends: It's all about HER (attention whore).

Second chick, the Asian domme: Whoa! Uber-hot! (But then, I like Asian girls, so that might just be me. No, it's not; she's hot!) The message SHE sends: It's all about being sexy. And I think she pulls it off. I'd be on her like white on rice (hahahaha, very very bad pun there, forgive me.)

Third chick, brainy bohemian girl: Hey... that's nice. I don't think she's going to be for everyone, but she's obviously smart, easy going on many things, and kind of an artistic style. Message she sends, though, might be a little bit standoffish (the book?) and "if you're not pretty darn smart, you better stay away". And she probably doesn't shave her legs or armpits.

Fourth chick, tomboy girl: It's your pal! She's a buddy type who'll be perfectly happy going to the ballpark with you or playing some XBox. Unfortunately, there's an outside chance she's a lesbian. Message she sends: pretty much what she says she wants to send, easy going, casual chick.

I found the disconnect (between what some of the women thought they were saying and what some of the men received) to be pretty interesting. The only one that all the guys seemed to think was very OPEN was the trashy looking Asian gal; the others all had at least a couple of the guys (and myself) saying "she's a bit closed off".

Sooo... the challenge, for you females, appears to be in finding and pulling off a style that sends a message that you're open to being approached and not standoffish, but without being seen as "I'm going to eat you alive at the end of the night".

Unless, of course, that last message is what you're looking for. :)

The first gal was too high maintenance - keeping up with high fashion IS expensive. Plus the dog, not on a first date, screams

First woman: Wacko. Nut bar. Self-involved idiot.

Second woman: High priced hooker (and steer clear of any woman who says she likes making other women jealous...)

Third woman: Anybody ever watch Angel? Third girl is Fred. Who I think I'd like to be friends with.

Also I was astonished that nobody talked out loud about the jeans/skirt combo.

Fourth woman: I just don't know. I dress like that when I'm going to the dump or mowing my lawn.

My bottom line: I'm glad I don't live in New York City.

You know, you hit my grievance with that whole video... I'm a New Yorker, born and raised. The women they chose are not the women you will see running the street everyday. If you noticed, most of them were in the Arts. I wondered why they didn't show some real New Yorkers...

For everyone out there, the ladies (and I use that term loosely in some of those cases) are not a good representation of the women of New York. The first two are definitely the exception, not the rule...

I don't think they're a good representation of women, period.

With that last girl, there are a few women running around here who are trying to be hipper and younger than they really are. Icks me out, but whatever... LOL.

I'm with you. I also check up on where we're going and dress appropriately. I love my jeans but will peel out of them if they're not appropriate. :)
