Anyone tried this diet?

Sorry, I know this isn't the proper board for this question, but I know that a few women from this board are dieting (myself included) so I'm curious if anyone else has heard of/tried this.

I read about this Shangri-La Diet this morning. It entails nothing more than drinking a tablespoon of sugar or pure olive oil a day, inbetween meals. Supposedly it's supposed to reduce your snacking cravings.

Now, let me say, I KNOW how to lose weight. It's nothing more than eating less and exercising more. Simple enough. And I did manage to lose a bit a few years ago, which I've kept most of it off. But I do struggle with snacking during the day - especially in the afternnoon. I'm also an emotional/stress eater and can't seem to control that at all. So this intrigues me. I "get" the concept - tricking your body into eating less because you're supplying it with sugar, but will it work in the real world, and does it do anything at all for emotional eaters?

Anyone tried this? I'm giving it a few weeks to see what happens.

I dont think it would do much for emotional eaters to be honest. Emotional eaters eat because they "eat their feelings" (as that movie Mean Girls says) and not because they're hungry. If the sugar/olive oil concoction is meant to stop cravings or hunger pains, it doesnt do much to stop the thoughts or feelings associated with eating.

Just my two cents, from an emotional eater as well.

That doesn't seem very satisfying to me.

Hi Jules, I was thinking of you too actually, since we had not seen you around in awhile. I'm great, got engaged just before the New Year, planning a wedding for October. Working on finishing up my final two months of grad school and then Im outta here with two more letters behind my name and a whole lotta debt! Hopefully I'll be getting a job where R lives.

How are you doin? Surviving this Chicago winter? Man alive, February was awful!! I saw that you havent smoked for 6 months, thats so great! Takes a lot of willpower and strength to give that up..good for you!

YOu and R got engaged! Congratulations! You must be excited about grad school nearing the end. Where will you be moving to?

This winter has been brutal temperature wise. I noticed that my knee feels better now that the weather is a little warmer. The cold never effected me prior to my surgery so that's something new. Sigh. I was able to sign a work from home agreement so I did not have to come into the office on days when there is a ton of snow. It's only for this winter because of the knee surgery but it looks like they might be willing to extend the agreement and allow me to work from home one day each week. Here's hoping!

Thanks on the congrats for quitting smoking. It was rough those first few weeks. I would cry at the drop of a hat and I was irritable and tired and mentally challenged. But after the firs 3-4 weeks it got better and somewhere around 4 months I reached a peace with it. I still get the occasional craving but it's no big deal. I was one of those smokers who loved it right up until the last drag. Shy is the only one here who has met me and saw me when I was out drinking and I was almost never without a cigarette. I still miss it occasionally but most of the time I am just glad that I am not doing it anymore. Plus - cigarettes are so expensive in Chicago now!

Okay so upon further reading, I've gathered this much:

This is not a meal replacement. It's sort of in place of snacks. And you take in from 100 to 400 calories in either sugar or extra light olive oil mixed with water.

The idea is to trick your body into thinking it's eaten a bland food and not be hungry. And I will say that I have not been as hungry since I've been doing this, but it's too soon to judge. When I've lost some weight I'll reassess.

I still need to get to the gym - if I could only find the time between working 40 hours a week and going to class two nights a week!

But....if you're trying to lose weight and an apple has 80 calories, wouldn't it make more sense to just have an apple, which is full of fiber, instead of downing a spoonful of sugar? 400 calories is quite a bit.
