Aspberger's syndrome...

Hmmm... I am the one who wrote about a bad fix up... and I think I want to hear if other people know about this form of autism, which is commonly known as a social disorder... aspberger's syndrome? Can anyone out there tell me more about it? What are some of the cues and how often do people who have this lead normal lives (get married, have children, hold down employment?) Just curious, as I believe the man I was fixed up with had it.

Stacey, how old were you when you dated this guy? In your teens? Wonder what ever happened to him, poor thing.

I was 20 and turned 21 in the time I dated him.

>...he dumped me again by taping a note to my car. A note written on a scrap paper he found in the parking lot.<

LOL!! OMG...

I'm sorry, I'm not laughing *at* you...

That did make me giggle though. Man - now THAT is a guy with social problems. There's getting dumped via the phone, or via voice mail or text messages even - but getting a scrap piece of paper taped to your window... geeze - *THAT*s a guy with problems!

If I were your parents I'd have done the same thing. :)

I knew a kid with aspergers back in high school. He had little social comprehension or tact. He'd do things like blurt out random statements at random time, mumble, laugh or smile at inappropriate times and stuff like that. But the kid was an absolute math and computer genius. He was at the top of the class for math and computer science, took all AP courses, and for free time he would dismantle and reassemble and reprogram computers or anything with a microchip in it. He ended up winning a scholarship to UMass so he's doing pretty well.

Did I mention that the tape he used to tape it to my window was a recycled piece of the kind of tape you use to tape a bandage? He must have found THAT in the parking lot, too. :)

Have any of you ladies come across "The Curious Incident of the Dog At Night Time" by Mark Hadden:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Curious-Incident-Dog-Night-Time-Childrens/dp/0099456761/ref=sr_1_2/202-0651271-8352600?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1176896363&sr=1-2

It is written in first person by an hypothetical little boy with Asperger's syndrome. It is an easy and fun way to learn more about the syndrome.

OMG yeah I did! I didn't realize that the first person "writer" had Asperger's - I didn't finish it though. Actually I was at the bookstore and saw it. Read about a third of it just standing there in the isle. I remember I kept thinking "What is WRONG with this person?"

LOL - well that explains that then! I'll have to finish that book someday when I've not got my nose stuck in a textbook!
