I'd say step one is to get the on again, off again guy out of your life. I know you care about him and I know it sounds impossible but it's what you need to do to move on. It's the only way to heal. You need to see yourself as available before anyone else can.
Second, I'd say do your best to develop a new attitude eventhough you don't feel like it and head out to the wedding on your own. It's not always about embracing singlehood as it is about embracing the present. There are things you cannot do anything about, period. Sometimes the choice you have is to live the life you're given now and hope for the best in the future. Of course, this is easier said than done but it is also worth a try. It's not going to be easy and comfortable being someplace you don't know anyone but I've looked at it this way, it's your best friend's wedding day and it's pretty much only about the couple anyway. When it was me in my best friend's bridal party, I know I would have done anything and everything I could to help make it the best day of her life. If that means shaking hands, making conversation and dancing with strangers, so be it.
