Hello everyone. I'm struggling with some self esteem issues and have always had very unhealthy relationship. Every man I've ever been with has always put someone or something in front of me so basically all I know how to do is play second fiddle. I'm ready to take control of my life and I'm needing a little help! My friends' husbands all tell me that I'm gorgeous, have a great personality and that they can't see how in the world I'm not married so I do think it's possible to have a decent relationship. I just think it's got to start with me loving myself first and not accepting less than I deserve. So....after the rambling I post this question. Does anyone have a recommendation on some good books that could push me to raise my self esteem and have more confidence? Any help would be appreciated!

There are so many books in the self help aisle geared toward that purpose. I recommend anything that talks about the law of attraction. Lately, i've been working out and feeling alot better about myself and men must pick up on that because they've started to take notice alot more. I think people get a sense of how you feel and they play on that. Good luck to you!

A wonderful set of audio cassette tapes and a workbook is by Ernie Larsen and it's called "Builidng Self Esteem." It's avaiable used on Amazon (I just checked) and here's the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Building-Self-Esteem-Audiobook-Workbook/dp/B000TRVUGC/ref=sr_1_2/002-1560178-1452038?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188072786&sr=1-2

Oftentimes, low self-esteem comes from family of origin issues, so another great book about this is by John Bradshaw called "Bradshaw: On the Family." Both of these authors have focused great deal on addiction and recovery, but the message is still the same, even if you are not struggling with addiction.

Another good book is "Women Who Love Too Much" and it is focused on women who become involved with addicted men. But, still a lot of good stuff.

And of course, I would really recommend counseling. You deserve it.

Take care. --FG
